The Lear you are looking for cannot be found

Unwisely, King Lear has divided his kingdom in two and is currently being denied entry down at Goneril's place. Alternatively, he could be wandering around the moorland screaming obscenities or avenging Cordelia's death. Why does she have to die, anyway? All the other versions of Lear have her surviving at the end. Beats me. By the way, did you know that Lear was banned between 1788 and 1820 just in case the public drew unseemly parrallels between the madness of Lear and George III?
