Thursday Next Extreme: Gretchen

Hullo Jasper,

It is not safe to get lost in a good book in subtropical Brisbane, Australia. After a cyclonic summer downpour, humid conditions can create a verdant rainforest within hours. Lush growth, ferns, palms and vines jostle and embrace, climbing on each other in a quest to reach sunlight high above. Tendrils fan out across the tree canopy, curling and swaying in the warm breeze, annoying the feet of small birds. Below this vibrant green expansion, my chair is slowly sinking into damp leaf litter as I listen to a riveting Thursday Next audio book. I am in very real danger from osmosis. And a frill-neck lizard who is getting uncomfortably close.
