A Nextian Extreme incident

Dear Mr. Fforde,

Since this is the last year for the Thursday Nextreme contest, I thought it appropriate to submit two extreme locations for the price of one. I'm a high school English teacher, so much like SpecOps-27, getting Lost in a Good Book is something of an occupational hazard.

I first met Thursday Next in my hospital room at Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute in New York City this past summer, while recovering from a second surgery for an "EXTREME"ly rare Carcinoid cancer. Even though she didn't have Mycroft's Prose Portal with her, Thursday was still able to transport me to Swindon, where I watched her risk her life for Jane Eyre in that nasty Affair with Acheron Hades (picture #1).

During my recovery, I visited Cape May - which is at the EXTREME southern tip of New Jersey. (And really, I ask you, what's more extreme than NJ?) I took Thursday with me on this mini-vacation, and became so intrigued with Jurisfiction's latest cases that I was able to forget about doctors and cancer treatments for a while (picture #2).

I am very happy to report that I am now feeling much better, teaching full time, and getting ready to dive into The Well of Lost Plots this Christmas holiday. Thank you for considering my Nextreme contest submission, and for keeping good stories (and heroines) alive and well.

Thursday's devoted fan,
Marlena Johnston
