I liked the idea of the "Will Speak" machines in The Eyre Affair, manequins not unlike the seaside 'Jolly Jack Tar' who could dispense a few lines of Shakespeare for a florin (10p. It seems Thursday's world is not decimalised) This is a preliminary sketch and would have been one of the illustrations for TN-1, had such a thing occured.
