Following representations from diplomatic officials, and to prevent severance of relations between Yorkshire and Portugal, the following statement has been issued;

Jon Brierley (hereinafter referred to as the Cheeky Bugger) did not with intent or malice aforethought desire, wish or conspire to produce any feelings of embarrassment, shame, or quietude among any sections of the readership, with especial reference to any Lusitanian siblings that might have chanced upon this missive. Apologies are freely offered to all offended parties, and damages will be payable in alcohol.

<HTML>I don't think he was familiar with the geographical dispersion of the Ogeia family ;)

Jon, apologies accepted :)

<HTML>Actually I was aware that Carla lurks in a bookshop somewhere in London; the League's title was based on nationality, not location.

And the LIAGB Notes are coming along nicely, thank-you, though I'd be grateful if anyone knows what 'Combobbilous' means.</HTML>

<HTML>Google doesn't like it, certainly.

I can't remember the context for it, but having a guess it means: 'like the Remington Fuzzaway'.

It obviously comes from the latin 'comb' meaning 'device less than useful for bald people', and 'bobble' as in 'strange lumps of wool on a jumper'. As a comb is also intended for arranging stuff into a better shape, and the battery powered jumper shaver is also useless for bald people (or just people), it stands to reason that the device being referred to is the 'Inovations' classic....</HTML>

<HTML>The context is of Thurs. being offered a Combobbilous cutlet by Mrs. Dashwood, so I can't think hair is involved (even though Mrs D, is *exactly* the sort of person who buys useless devices from K-Tel and the like).

I suspect a Lear or Carroll connection, myself.</HTML>

<HTML>Wouldn't be related to the roots 'Com' meaning like and 'Bobbit' from 'John Wayne Bobbit'. (look it up...)

Explains the cutlet bit... Did Thursday turn it down, per chance?</HTML>

<HTML>"the League's title was based on nationality, not location."
