<HTML>After the BBC have just finished their 'Greatest Britons' poll, I've kind of started wondering how the poll for 'Greatest Author' would turn out. And I also started wondering how a Jurisfiction Awards ceremony would turn out with categories voted for by the readers.

And, in the spirit of investigation, I intend to find out. Please vote for up to three names in the following categories:

Best Romantic Lead (Male):
Best Romantic Lead (Female):
Most troubled romantic lead (male) :
Most troubled romantic lead (female):
Character you'd most like to shake and tell to get a life:
Most incomprehensible plot:
Most Boring Book (fact):
Most Boring Book (fiction):
Best opening paragraph:
Best closing paragraph:
Best Line of Dialogue - ever:
Worst Book Ever Written (fact):
Worst Book Ever Written (fiction):
Best Book Ever (fact):
Best Book Ever (fiction):
Best Poet Ever:
Worst Poet Ever:
Dopiest Shakesperean Character:
Most impossible scientific invention in an SF novel:
Most implausible premise in any genre:
Best Author:
Worst Author:

To vote simply cut and paste the above categories onto an email with up to three names next to each category. Send the email to the address above (click on poetscientistdrinker and it should get you there...) and I'll compile the votes. Please get friends/family/pets/Baconians to vote as well, so we get a really good survey - but please use a different email address for each. To avoid confusion and multiple votes I'm only allowing your first email to be counted - so make sure you vote for all categories the first time round. Any comments should be placed here, or sent to poetscientistdrinker@hotmail.com.

Voting closes on December the 30th, and results will be posted here on January the 1st (or thereabouts).

Look forward to seeing the results,

<HTML>Er, I actually managed to delete the explanation, didn't I?

I was wondering how you would all vote if it were done properly, rather than purely as an exercise in fertilising the magnficent prose of Mr Fforde...</HTML>

<HTML>Knowing that we will all vote for Mr Fforde as best author, maybe there should be a second best author category?</HTML>

<HTML>And haven't you all been busy with community singing while I've been away in the Socialist Republic of Wales for the weekend? I stopped for a commemorative visit at Leigh Delamere Services, and I'm sure I saw a few mammoths (the migration is running late this year, obviously) as I passed Swindon. Either that or it was the sheep huddling together for protection from the torrential rain.</HTML>

<HTML>good point - Okay, there may well be a 'best author other than Mr Fforde' category as well.

Feel free to join in the next chorus ;)</HTML>
