<HTML>Fiction People
She came from Swindon with a thirst for knowledge,
she studied English at the local college,
that's where I,
caught her eye.
She told me that her Dad’s a colonel,
and not of Time but almost eternal
I said "Fine."
and in thirty seconds time she said,
"I want to live like Fiction people,
I want to do whatever Fiction people do,
I want to work with Fiction people,
I want to work with Fiction people,
like you."
Well what else could I do -
I said "I'll see what I can do."
I took her to the Libar-ary,
I don't know why but I had to start it somewhere,
so it started there.
The Cat told her all the Fiction deal
she just laughed and said,
"But you’re not real."
He said "yeah?
Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here.
Are you sure you want to live like Fiction people,
you want to see whatever Fiction people see,
you want to work with Fiction people,
you want to work with Fiction people,
like me."
She didn't yet understand,
but she smiled and held my hand.
Jump in books and get in plots,
Grammasites that must be shot.
Catch PageRunners out of books,
Bowdlerisers cutting f***s.
Then one day you’ll get it right,
though when you're laid in bed at night,
watching the clock upon the wall,
if you see your Dad he could stop it all.
You'll have to live like Fiction people,
you'll have to do whatever Fiction people do,
you'll have to think like Fiction people,
you'll have to watch as plots slide out of true,
and then try to make it new,
because that’s what Fiction people do.
Read along with the Fiction people,
read along and it might just get you through,
Jump in books with the Fiction people,
Jump in books even though the Schitts are laughing at you,
and the stupid things that you do.
Because you think that Love is cool.
I want to live with Fiction people,
I want to live with Fiction people etc...
*Apologies to Jarvis Cocker and Pulp for this massacre of their classic track 'Common People'.*</HTML>
