Pre-ordering...

<HTML>Has anybosy preordered a book before, and do you get them on the first day they're out or the day after? I want to read WOLP as soon as possible (i'll even take the day off so I can read the whole of it at once...)</HTML>

<HTML>A friend of mine pre-ordered a Pratchett once, and was most miffed when I got it in a bookshop a week before she did (and two days before the official pub. date, too) but pre-ordering does have the nice effect that if enough orders are taken, the author can start earning royalties even before it hits the streets. (Authors only collect royalties once the sales have 'earned out' the advance for the publisher). This may be why Jasper has put some handy pre-ordering links (and a mock-up of the cover) <a href="http://www.jasperfforde.com/buywolpuk.html" here /a>

Of course you could get a job with the publisher and read it in proof .....</HTML>

<HTML>Well, if Mr Fforde needs a proof reader, I'm sure I can think of some literate types who might be willing to help....</HTML>

<HTML>And I've got 100% perfect spelling, so I'd make an <i>ideal</i> proofreader, don't you think? ;-)

Even better... let's all proofread for Jasper. Then if he's made any kind of mistake at all, at least one of us is simply bound to spot it and save him from future embarrassment, kind helpful people that we are. :-)</HTML>

<HTML>If we all proof read it then we'd be bound to spot the mistakes.

Or maybe we could all proof-read a chapter, and then compare notes? Hmm, maybe not...

Everytime I've pre-ordered something it's appeared on my doorstep on the day of release. Nice and handy, and I don't even have to go out in the rain to get to the shops. :)</HTML>

<HTML>Selling sisters is a little-known 19th cent. practice, commemorated in the rhymes 'she sells sisters by the sea-shore' and 'sister suzy sells siblings to sailors'. Personally I'd rather buy a proof copy of WOLP than another sister, but if it's a buy-one-get-one-free deal I suppose I could always give a spare sister to Claire, who hasn't got any.

Oh, and one final point. If anyone does read it in proof at all (and I mention no names, but two spring to mind) and were then to inadvertently slip any spoilers into their conversations on any fforum they might belong to, a terrible fate would await them. Me and Ben (grammar) would come and pun you to death. You have been warned.</HTML>

<HTML>Actually, that's an interesting question. Why did they never produce a 'My Little Pony Mafia Playset', where you just got a pastel coloured pony head to leave in Cindy's and Paul's marital bed? An obvious opportunity missed, I feel...</HTML>
