Ok, let me be the first to ask the Dodo question

How far did the Dodo walk into the Forest of Dean?

This is presumably a British reference that those of us on this side of the pond aren't likely to know. Google search turns up much about the forest, but no clue on this...

Soon many will come here to demand the answer! Be the first to provide it.

Do you know, I can't even place the reference. Once more into the books, dear friends, once more unto the books...

Is this a re-working of the old 'Why did the chicken cross the road' jokes?

Actually, I'm thinking that the answer is probably a pun... considering that the dodo stops halfway across the gap and says "Plock"....

...the answer is likely something along the lines of "one plock" (as opposed to "one block" or something to that effect....)

of course, I may also be as dumb as a dodo on this one... <snicker> as I haven't gotten it to work yet myself...

..but I'll keep trying!!! Good Luck!!!

H'mm. I've got a good friend in the Forest of Dean. I shall enquire about dodos. (Don't worry, he's used to me by now!)

Right, I got to the dodo, and let me tell you the answer is:

1. Not a British reference
2. very easy
3. obvious from looking at what the dodo does
4. already mentioned in this thread

Keep trying folks ... just don't try to be too clever!

Yep, I got the answer too, and it's based on a very old (and culturally non-specific) joke. Doesn't actually matter which forest you're talking about either.

I finished the whole thing and entered the contest yesterday, in fact.

I suppose this is the point at which I confess that I got stuck on that one too, and had to resort to Google......

Which is rather like cheating (although I prefer to call it research).

Well at least I now know what you're talking about...

Appaling spelling meant I had to retype two answers to round two.

I did make up for getting the magic answer to the word ladder after
3 letters.

Now I have to suss the riddle. Well that, and get back to some work...

OK, I managed to finish in the end. I can't enter the draw*, though, unless I move to the US, which doesn't seem worth it, somehow.

* - it actually says 'drawer' .... Rob isn't the only one afflicted by the vyrus.

Sorry, folks. I am stumped, flummoxed, baffled, bewildered and at a loss. Please will someone tell me the answer to the dodo riddle and put me out of my misery?!

(PS Minsky is out. Otherwise, of course, I'd ask him.)

Well, that filled an hour...

As Jon says, moving to the States is a bit extreme. I cheated on
the Tom Swifties too. Although I was in the right ball parked with
the ones I didn't get spot on.

Dave: The quiz is from the crossword on the homepage.

Sarah: No extra clues. The answer is actually on this page (above
Jon's post) and you will kick yourself...

Dave (again): Of course it tastes like chicken...

That must be home time...

Okay, I'm lost...I'm doing the puzzle. I downloaded it and printed it out. The clue for 3 down is www.jasperfforde.com/clue.html however that doesn't seem to work, it just takes me back to the Fforde Grand Central page. Is that happening to everone? Is that the clue? Am I just stupid? (or sleep deprived?)

HELP

still stuck on the dodo. you know, I'm really not very good at these things. I frequently flunk Professor Obvious's classes.

That is really awful.

Why did Jasper send people to us for help? Like we know what's going on... :)

I've got the Dodo thing. Really, quite awful.

As for the 3 Down, you have to solve the other clues in the word to get it. There isn't actually a '3 down' clue. As you guessed, the web addy isn't a real one.

Good luck all.

I don't know why I'm doing this anyway, I can't enter, since I live on the wrong side of the pond...

Mildred says that she's got a joke for you.

A dyslexic dodo walked into a bra.

(Very, very bad...)
