Yes, you are. I believe you have inadvertently received the lone defective copy that was accidentally printed with a missing chapter. Pity, it was the best one.
The thing is, you should be able to spot that it is deliberate... in the contents the chapter 13s are the only ones that start on an even page number and are also only 1 page long.

Thank you all for your help. I am so glad that we figured out that I have the only defective copy. Maybe I should try to auction it on eBay!
That part about the Giants and Earthworms makes so much more sense in Chapter 14 now.
I wonder why people would want me to use the search function or to pay attention to the odd versus even page start. That seems like such hard work and seems like something for sophisticated readers...this way I found out what happened without having to read a whole page of a book...
I'm sorry, love, I couldn't resist it. The truth of the matter is that none of the estimable Mr Fforde's books have a chapter 13, though one is always listed. The chapter titles are locations around where they live, I believe. But as subtly hinted above, the search function will help with this one.
