I always try to make a little game of figuring out who the unnamed characters are in Thursday books.
The red-haired gentleman is surely the culprit from The Murders on the Rue Morgue, and Bradshaw's aide can only be Holden Caulfield (notice he uses "goddam" instead of "goddamned").
Nice to see some American characters in there. :)
