Cardenio regained?

So when Jurisficiton reclaimed the Great Library's copy of 'Cardenio' the Whigs lost the Shakespeare vote to the ruling Teafurst Party who promised that with the ChronoGuard's they'd postpone the historical destruction of Shakespeare's old home? Fine... Is there anything (apart from the possible wrath of Jurisfiction, about whom the Teafurst Party leadership presumably doesn't yet know) to stop teh government sending a ChronoGuard team on an officially-approved "retrosnatch" mission to obtain a copy of 'Cardenio' from back before it was originally lost, perhaps just before the next election?

For that matter, couldn't the ChronoGuard have been sent back to block Acheron's plans (and save Mr Quaverly, and keep the ending of 'Jane Eyre' unchanged) by removing the manuscripts that he was going to steal just before he reached their locations? Did they refrain from this because things had worked out not too badly (thanks to Thursday) as it was and they didn't want to risk the uncertainty of what Acheron might have tried instead if thwarted in that way?

All of which is supposing that the ChronoGuard is halfway honest and not (as they appear to be) as bent as a docker's hook. Why do you think the Colonel left? Maybe the government just doesn't trust them (and vice versa).

If the governing party can trust the ChronoGuard to help with one campaign province then why not with another one as well? After all, whilst the Teafurst Party leadership presumably doesn't support the CG's "French Revisionist" activities who knows how far those politicians might actually be involved with any of the CG's other skullduggeries? And what else could the CG do with a retrieved copy of 'Cardenio', anyway, as their participation in any temporal funny business would be obvious (unless they managed to sucessfully blame either Colonel Next or Sarah Goode Evans, of course)?
