Chapter 19

My original copy of LIAGB is a proof and this is the one that has been read and re-read etc until it's started to fall to bits.

So I bought a new pbk edition but, along with the signed hbk I have, it remained un-looked at - until last week.

Skimming through I realised that I couldn't find any reference to the Barbour jacket that Miss Haversham had obtained in the Spring Moffat winter sales. Then I realised that Chapter 19 is called "Autumn Sales and twenty-seven-litre Higham Specials' in the proof, but "Bargain Books" in the final version.

In the proof, Thursday has to get the Barbour jacket whereas in the final version, it's a boxed set of Daphne Farquitt novels. The same sort of scrummage occurs but with lots of drip-dry dresses, grey knitted cardigans and floral pattern dresses occurs. And Thursday gets the jacket by shouting out ...well I'll leave that for now.

Having read both versions, I have to say I prefer the Spring Moffat sales to the Swindon Booktastic closing down sale. Anyone else got a proof and disagree?

I wish I had a proof. I'm just going to sit here and sulk enviously for a while.

Ditto Nicky.

*grumbles: stupid people in the publishing business, think they can get all the proofs and get away with it and leave us (sarcasm) mere mortals waiting for our copy in the mail, stupid post people so slow and dont know the difference between a postbox and a cat, stupid cat leaving half dead insects everywhere, stupid insects being alive.... Please? (If Jasper doesn't object...)

Or maybe Jasper might be persuaded to include it in the 'Special Features' section?

Anyone got a scanner?

Or I could type the whole thing and put it up!

oh i have proofs as well, i had no idea that had been changed!
I haven't read the real chapter but i think the jacket idea is better. I mean, they are book people, what do they want with a box set?

Oh, but you have to read the final version, it's great!!!!

I know what you mean, Carla, but then the *usual* thing we get in *our* world are clothes sales and runs.... it's much more attractive to see that happening with books :D

Although I agree with you that in Thursday's world the opposite might work better...

CwLucky you two having a proof! If no-one else has a scanner I could get it done at work Aunty Sassy - let me know... it would be great to read it if that's ok with Jasper!

I notice the original version of this text is now up on Jasper's site, in the LIAGB Special Features section - there's a link from the What's New page.
