try Christopher Moore. His Bloodsucking Fiends is a good place to start, he's a little darker than the others but still funny. You might find him in the horror section in some shops but that's because Bloodsucking Fiends is about vampires trying to give up blood.

For futuristic stuff, I quite like Harry Harrison's 'Stainless Steel rat' books (haven't read any for a while though). Also,a series of Whodunnits written in the sixties, called 'The Toff' (can't remember who wrote them, or even if they're still in print) were pretty quirky. My taste in Terry Pratchett begins and ends with the 'Guards' books - superb. Nearest match to TN is probably 'Men at Arms'.
