Welcome.
That figure would be for PURE Beryllium. The element in question is a very difficult one to purify completely, so that the form usually supplied for manufacturing purposes contains some traces of other elements too: The presence of these impurities lowers both of the melting & boiling points. (By enough? I don't know...)

Most people just say 'hello'.

But that, DODKOT, takes a SERIOUSLY warped mind. Welcome!

Flamed? Flamed, forsooth? We flame not. Not even if heated to the melting point of Beryllium. Welcome, O Long-Named One. (Must get round to writing up those FAQs one of these days).

flamed you might not be, but you're pretty certain to be known only as DODKOT from now on....
welcome anyway, and just a quick question, me having lent my copy of TEA to my mum, what does Polly say the melting point is? And are we likely to see this as an upgrade/bloophole removal at some point?

Welcome, and thankyou for making me feel better about my own overly-extended name...

Nothing interesting to add, though...

hello hello... just found this MB today ;)
The melting point of Lithium is 180.5 .... and it is right next to Be on the periodic table... hmmmmmmmm

Upgrade problem maybe?

In the Nextian universe though the majority of the Beryllium might not be tainted.

I think a complicated Goliath conspiracy theory could smooth over the beryllium mistake...and anyways, aren't authors always making mistakes and pretending that they were intentional? :)

Occam's Razor says that the simplest answer is probably the correct one:

Polly's thermometer only goes up to 180.57.
