The Windsor Hotel in Melbourne (city) also has a giant chocolate fountain and a range of foods (strawberries, cheeses, other things) which you can dip into it. On the one occasion I went there (it is very posh and the so called "English afternoon tea" costs abou AUD $50 a head but I went cos someone worked there and got us in for a few bucks) it was very popular and people (inc me) were taking photos of it so in awe of a never-ending chocolate fountain were we all! The afternoon tea was totally delicious and included gorgeous sandwiches, cakes, crepes and chanpagne, just a bit expensive!

So does the Melba hotel on Southbank alongside the Yarra! Much to the happiness of my friends when I went there for a dinner party.

Leonidas. The first and last word in chocolate. 100% cocoa butter, fresh everything and amazing taste. UK or USA only I think, and I presume, mainland Europe. There used to be a little shop in the Aberdeen, the guy who ran it used to joke I was only allowed in there 5 times a day :-) Seriously though, if you like chocolate and are in the UK order some!

Also, some friends and I were discussing chocolate the other week and a conclusion reached was that in hotter countries such as USA or even Oz i guess, chocolate tastes funny. (two canibals eating a clown, one turns to the other and says "does this taste funny to you??") Apparently it's because in hot countries, additives have to be added to the chocolate to raise the melting point so it doesn't go runny in the shops. This means that chocolate (yes I do include cadburys in that) in places like the UK melts slightly in your mouth, coating the inside of your mouth in chocolate and hence tastes slightly better, or at least not odd.

(...but what were the first 3 edits for, hmm??...)

Only the @#$%& chocolate. If you want good chocolate, you keep it in the coolest darkest place in your cupboard. I noticed the difference too when I went o/s.

Agreed, my sister will kill for Buttons. I'm not sure where you are at the moment BK, but there aren't any cool, dark places in many houses at the moment - and it would be even worse for bunyip in SA.

You are right, CR!

Not only is it worse, its diabolical.

I was out today and had to park the car in town for an hour and a half. It was in full sun.

When I got back I opened a drink bottle of water and scalded my tongue when I drank some water. The standardised temperature was 45.7c, I think, which equates to 113.7F.

Tomorrow there are saying a minimum maximum of 44C.

And its worse in the northern suburbs where we have just bought a house. Fortunately the new house has two air-conditioning systems.

I am going to the cancer specialist tomorrow who is located at the beach suburb of Glenelg South and I intend stopping in Glenelg and having a large Andersen's ice-cream with chocolate and cream to overcome the experience.

I noticed the difference in the chocolates in the UK also. I didn't worry much about the difference but to know now that the cooler clime chockky is of different composition explains the different tactile sensation experienced.

Then when I get home I shall partake of a medicinal Cascade beer*.

*For history buffs Cascade beers used to be made using the water from a particular stream in Tasmania and was the best lager style beer in OZ. In 1964 a bushfire destroyed the old brewery and I don't know if the new one uses the old stream anymore.

But it is still the best commercially made in Oz**.

**In my humble opinion.

Yes, the tassie beers are good.

I'm sure that CUB use the Yarra to make VB - straight out of the river into the bottle.

Is it me or are there a large number of threads (3 so far that I can see..) that are being hijacked by chocolate? One of these admittedly is entitled "chocolate" but the other two are this one, "mysterious corrections" and "howl of outrage" which has either been hijacked by ferros or by foil wrapped abominables

I'm seriously worried about everybody's diet. There is a recipe for Moorhen Gumbo somewhere if you fancy a change.

Moorhen pie, anyone?

as I am not too sure if this is sweet or savoury, I will refrain from putting an "S" on the pie crust.

Don't worry, I'll put a chocolate S on top to distinguish it from the others. Yum.

lymond, surely you've been on the fforum before? All topics ALWAYS revert back to chocolate. Or sometimes cats. It's quantum, or something.

I prefer Melbourne Bitter to the "Green Label Coca Cola".

A quantum of Chocolate is never enough??

About time they brought Easter forward to February in my opinion. Carry it through to Valentines and make a month of it.

I agree with the concept of drinking Boag's as an alternative to Cascade.

I tried some Cooper's light last week and it seems to have lost its good taste, but Boag's and Cascade are no more expensive so I'll stick to them from now on, allowing for my son who has just brewed his first batches of beer. The light one is very drinkable, especially at about 60c a bottle, while the darker one is something his grandfather would have used as an appetiser for cattle.

If he can repeat the product I might put in a standing order for a dozen each batch. It might have to be two dozen as his mother has now got the taste for beer.

As for a comment that all threads eventually move to chocolate, what else would we move towards?

Just thinking: In my world a 'Quantum of Solace' would equate to a half litre tankard of good light beer.

I don't think chocolate moves in quanta, it's more a field effect with action at a distance.

I trialled a few nice beers in Europe in the last few weeks/month. There was a nice Belgian beer called Leffe and of course Rubia and Tostada cervezas in Spain.
