Well, I can't focus anyway - at whatever distance. So people always look pretty good....

And not through beer, either...

Presumably once you've got into bed with someone and taken your glasses off, the next thing you do is turn off the light. So you can't see a whole lot, no matter what the state of your eyesight!

Depends on what you've got in mind....

(Reading, for example)

I must admit I don't often read in bed, but then I have rather a dodgy back so I prefer to sit in something more supportive, normally my swivel chair. Reading whilst lying absolutely horizontal is a luxury normally reserved only for Braille readers, unless you're prepared to hold the book in the air above your head, which gets uncomfortable.

But saves having to use your imagination.

No idea how that stuck my sig up twice, btw

You know, there could be a market for a special book stand which you could use for reading while flat on your back. In fact, the more I think about it, the better it sounds.

Would anyone else here want to use one if it existed?

I always find that my vision can't cope with it. I rigged up a mirror so I could watch TV whilst flat on my back in bed, and I found my eyes didn't actually like it - it actually made me feel slightly ill.

So I'll pass on, cheers...

Although I can see it being popular with adolescent boys perusing certain specialist publications...

Dear Magda,
I have just recently discovered Jasper Fforde and his wonderful books, so this is my first time on the forum. I just wanted to tell you that I have just returned from his book signing in New Orleans and he mentioned you and displayed Alun during his talk. He seems quite taken with it.

Very Cool! Thank you for letting me know, Rhonda! I'm extremely pleased that he likes it (and glad that I ignored my mother, who complained about my priorities when I spent the Sunday before I saw him making a dodo instead of helping her clean house).

Hi Rhonda, and welcome! You'll find we're all a little crazy here.

That, by the way, is a typical British understatement. ;-)

Hello Rhonda, glad so many people are getting the chance to see Mr Ff in the flesh, and also glad that he appears to be directing people to our peculiar brand of inanity.

And Skiffle - I have no idea how you could have got that idea. I really don't...
