How can you all know so much about Dr Who?

How many "bad" episodes would you have to watch before your interest waned?
I'm not suggesting there are any, just hypothetically, would there come a point when the bad out-weighed the good and you'd decide that the amount of interest you had in it was misplaced?

What is special about Dr Who? What stops it being just another form of disposable entertainment.

I'm largely ambivalent about it, but I am fascinated by the level of dedication and interest it generates.

It can't just be longevity and childhood memories because other series would have the same effect, and they don't appear to.

Doctor Who is greatly overrated with me. It just lacks the required amount of depth. Glossy, well made, but somehow empty. Of course, I'm an original 'Star Trek' guy so it's all prejudice here.

You can't all be obsessed with David Tennant, surely? Excepting Kitten, of course.

I'm not, I quite liked the one before as well, he had a unique nose (Eccleston)

It would have been nice to see another Eccleston season, an edgy, sharp, prickly Doctor.

I've been a Dr Who fan from the early (1963!) days. I have dipped in and out, depending on characters, writers and BBC's attempts to kill it. At it's worst it is insufferable tosh, badly scripted, badly acted and full of everything that makes people hold SF in such poor regard. At its best, however, it has great ideas, great acting, stunningly good scripts and special effects that..... well it is the dear old Beeb, so special effects that are as good as they can manage at the time.

Much as I like Startrek TOS, NextGen and even the odd episode of Enterprise, for me, DS9 & Voyager mean that I will not be joining Egon on the darkside anytime soon.

Hmmm. They should have cast a cactus in a funny hat as the next Doctor.

I'm not a massive Trek person. I just think the first series was better than old Doctor Who, and DS9 probably better than modern Doctor Who. Rest of Trek is not something to be proud of at all.

Edited to add 'Sorry, double posting, bad Egon.'

Ditto for bizarre feelings of déjà vu.

I repect other peoples's opinions - and delight in the differences - but DS9 just didn't work for me. New Dr.Who has revitalised a moribund series and I look forward to Steve Moffat's (I can't avoid it, sorry) tenancy

Then good on you! Bring on the chocolate! Or ice cream! Or chocolate ice cream! Or chocolate ice cream popcorn candied apples!

Edited to add levity:
Nellie the Elephant!

Blakes7 brings back very vague fond memories.

As does Nellie the Elephant by The Toy Dolls

Uncanny - the Little Gegs have just spent the last week listening to this record over and over and over again. They are not in the least impressed by this link however, not quite sure what they were expecting - but clearly not this. Made me happy though, but then I remember the eighties, the first time round.

Now I remember why I haven't bothered to remember anything from the eighties.

Don't worry about the facts, just read the headlines.

First,I'm not sure if this is good news or bad:

But this is definitely a bummer:

Avon was in Emmerdale recently - in leather.

I have it on good authority that Edna is a Mutoid in disguise. Tis why she wears the hat.
