Hi, I was checking out some blog sites and came across a link for a BBC4 program about dodos that had Jasper as a phone in interviewee. Here's a link if you want to check it out.... It's not a long interview, but you'll get to hear him. Warning, it took BLOODY AGES for it to load for me, but maybe you'll have better luck!

Note for confused Brits - AAC means Radio Four, as the thingummy suggests

Note for confused AAC - BBC4 is a cultured TV channel available only on Dodgital. This can get confusing...

Will have to have a listen...

sorry :) lol We actually give our tv stations names and not all start with BBC ...I guess it's cuz our government doesn't own all of our radio or tv stations! Thanks for the correction!

Sorry, I was being pedantic...

TV over here has BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five as terrestrial analogue channels, then we have all the weird satellite/terrestrial digital/cable channels. Most of those have proper names, except for those that are owned by terrestrial broadcasters, who tend to stick to what they know - hence ITV2, BBC3 and BBC4.

Confused? We are...

well, we do have a few stations like that, like MTV and MTV2 and our movie channels like HBO and Showtime are multiplexed, but they sorta have different names, like HBO-Family, etc... And we even have several BBC Channels, but unfortunately, our cable system doesn't get those (nor MTV2...of course not, they actually show videos on there!)

It's all confusing. [RANT] Shoot, my neighorhood is still waiting to get HDTV! It's just our neighborhood that doesn't get it. Everywhere else outside the 5 mile radius gets it. We were supposed to get it almost a year ago! And it makes me mad, cuz we're in an upscale neighborhood and nearly everyone subscribes to digital cable. You'd think they'd want our business to get the HDTV in here so they can charge us for it! [/RANT]

maybe having your stations owned by the government isn't so bad. Here, to get anything good, you have to have cable, preferably digital cable. And it's quite pricey! For our full package we pay a little over $100 a month! and the bad thing is that without cable, we can't hardly get a signal with an antenna! So we're basically screwed!
(guess I wasn't done with my rant! LOL)

There are two things I will particularly miss when I get back to Sheffield
a) Dad's broadband connection. - At least he's got two month's good value from it.....
b) Being able to get Channel 5 - not something I'd have said a couple of years ago.

Having Mum doing the shopping, cooking and laundry hasn't been too bad either.....

It's alright with Five - you can get better porn on the web...

(okay, okay, I know - it actually does some good arts stuff these days)

I caught the early evening news on Channel Five (sorry 'Five') recently and was impressed. Better than the Sophie and George show on BBC1. Why do they have to interview the reporters again live so they can repeat what they just told us in their report ?

Don't have a television at all, and don't feel that I'm missing anything much...

Same here. If I feel like wasting time, at least I can do it interactively online.

In most cases, I'd rather read a book than watch TV, although I do watch some.

I agree, the Fforum is a much more interesting way to waste time than television. And easier to do at work as well.

I watch some TV, although not loads and I'll often have it on in the background while I read a book or magazine. I'll watch sport and documentaries plus the news. Most of the time I have the radio on in the background - either Radio Four or Five Live, except for Radio One for Mark and Lard and the Sunday Surgery.

Not sure what this says about me...

It says you're not paying proper attention to your books, if you have the telly on in the background. Magazines don't count.

Nope, i really can multi-task with it. It's years of trying to read when you can't find anywhere quiet. The only thing that really won't allow me to do it is Neighbors, which contains some weird dialogue device that stops all normal functioning of my brain. Evil thing...

Doesn't it do that to everyone's brain, though?

Question: What do you call a Dodo that was hatched & raised in London's 'East End'?

Answer: A 'Plockney'.

I think I lent it to Jon so he'd quit ruining his keyboards and he never gave it back!
