Me too

What gets me is that Paxman sneers so much at the students when they get something wrong - he's not so perfect himself!

World is crazier and more of it than we think

<Agrees with abomination statement>
Abominations wrapped in gold-like paper.

I always thought that 'abomination' was the tribal group of the yetis who were seeking to expel the humans from the 8000 metre plus heights of the Himalayas.

To find that they come foil wrapped is quite a shock.

It helps them survive in the cold.

Interesting to consider the possibilities of what would have happened if the question had been phrased the other way ie "Who is the lady detective created by Jasper Fforde?"

My name is Egon, and I bought Ferrero Roche for New Year's Eve. The housemates loved them.

Is it wrong to re-gift them?

Reminds me of when "Weakest Link" was first aired. One of the questions was, "In which century did the First World War take place?" The contestant rightly answered "The twentieth," to which Anne Robinson - old sneery chops herself - said, "No, the nineteenth" and carried right on with the show. The thing is, NOBODY EVER BROUGHT THIS UP! And now the cheeky cow has the nerve to run a TV blooper program, taking the piss out of other people for their stupidity. Strewth.

Oh yeah - I'm back, by the way. So is my modem. Bloody Sky box rubbish grumble grumble ...

We used to have a show called "Pick A Box" and one of the legendary champions (Barry Jones, a teacher who went on to become a politician) once refused to answer a question because there was (in his opinion) more than one possible answer, depending on how some semantic aspect of the wording was to be interpretted.

The debate between Jones and the presenter (the equally legendary Bob Dyer) about whether or not the question could be answered went on for some minutes as I remember.

Another legendary champ on the show had been bestowed a Victoria Cross - the late Frank Partridge. Now THAT was a quiz show; "what do you want - the money or the box?" became part of the national lexicon, and contestants were respected as people. "You are the weakest link - goodbye" is a sad reflection of us all in what we now accept in this form of popular entertainment.

Ah, the good old days.

Next you will be bringing Jack 'Hi Ho Everybody' Davey back to the public awareness.

And a good thing too.

Goes away reminiscing: Yes, What!; The Bunkhouse Show: Hop Harrigan; The Gorilla Hunters; Run for your Life; Life with Dexter; Command Performance; Speed King - King of Space; Goon Show; Round the Horne; Beyond Our Ken; TIFH; ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... etc.

I still reckon Numberwang is the best game show... Closely followed by Hole In The Ring.
