From the Sphere Books listing in L P Davies "The Alien' of 1969:

Peter Scott: Happy Is The Ma - a husband leaves or gives a fortune to his wife.

Vicki Baum: Flight of Fat - a lass has a sudden loss of body mass in an aerial manoeuver that leaves onlookers gasping.

Heinrich Boll: The Train Was on Tim. A lad finds that the railways are not always enjoyable.

Elaine Dundy: The Old Man and M - possibly a weak link in the armour of Judy Dench

John Hawkes: Second Ski - great discoveries in the field of snow travel.

Irwin Shaw: The Troubled Ai - Problems beset a sloth

Herman Wouk: Aurora Daw - a rook gets tagged as an early riser

I must admit that I know nothing of these stories but on finishing reading the story I saw the list of these titles. There are more which could be included but I think that they would be perhaps a little contrived and thus not suitable for the erudite and intelligent people who are the fforumites.
