I think there were a lot of them in Dragonlancey type books. Something gate, I think, by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. They tend to be blue and wiggly, I understand.

I suppose I can reuse the title of this thread to announce my return from the wilds of Gloucestershire, to a place with a net connection that doesn't creak under the size of the fforum.
I read the Years of Rice and Salt, about a year or so ago, and, unusually for me, I've never picked it up since, quite enjoyed it at the time though. But nowhere near as much as the Mars trilogy also by KSR.
