Arnie crowned king of the catchphrases

The immortal Arnold Schwarzenegger line "I'll be back" has been named by film fans as the best parting shot in movie history.

Arnie tops a list compiled by Odeon Cinemas with his pay-off in 1984 movie Terminator.

And Austrian-born Schwarzenegger scores another top rated line with his "Hasta la vista, baby" from the sequel, Terminator II Judgment Day.

The cinema chain polled branch managers of nearly 100 complexes around the UK to draw up a rundown of verbal sign-offs.

Second in the list was Clark Gable's line to Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

Odeon spokesman Richard Storton said: "Many of these lines are so well known that they've passed into everyday speech.

"We'll be putting these in the exits of our cinemas to spark film debate even after people have left the auditorium."

Top ten movie lines:
1. "I'll be back." - The Terminator (1984);
2. "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." - Gone with the Wind (1939);
3. "Get busy living, or get busy dying." - The Shawshank Redemption (1994);
4. "Hasta la vista, baby." - Terminator II: Judgment Day (1991);
5. "Well, nobody's perfect!" - Some Like it Hot (1959);
6. "Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye." - 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968);
7. "Goodbye Mr Bond." - Goldfinger (1964);
8. "I've seen things you wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in the rain ... Time to die." - Bladerunner (1982);
9. "Made it, Ma! Top of the world!" - White Heat (1949);
10. "Forget about it!" - Donnie Brasco (1997).

thoughts? I like the Blade Runner one. Though there are some classics missing...

there's another Arnie one that we use at our house all the time whenever we have a headache...it's from "Kindergarten Cop".....
Someone says, "I have a headache"
The other says, "Must be a tumor."
The first one says, "It's not a toooomah" LOL

and my fave movie quote that I use ALL the time when my husband tells me I'm being bad: In my best Jessica Rabbit/Kathleen Turner sexy voice I say: "I'm not bad...I'm just drawn that way." (from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" if you hadn't guessed!)

nope. Not a sausage. I thought Rob might be the first to pick up on that one...

At least 'some like it hot' made it in there.

Did anyone watch 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' on friday? One of my favourite films. I even managed to put up with the dodgy Channel 4 reception down in Burwash to watch it. Superb.

Wot - no "We keep you alive to serve this ship - row well and live!" from Ben Hur?

No "It's Turkish - my hairdresser says everything's going to be Turkish this year!" from Amadeus?

No "People! I ain't people!" from Singing in the Rain?

Pathetic list - pleased they missed out Casablanca though......

Forgot to set video for Kind Hearts but remembered to get I Married a Witch earlier in the week - wonderful film!

Anyone got a video of Between Two Worlds with Sidney Greenstreet and Paul Heinreid - I'm desperate - can't track one down anywhere!

They could use some Mae West quotes too.

I would have got in there with a Casablanca comment but I'm still on holiday. I couldn't resist mentioning it as I'm no good at being noble...

Great film for quotes: "The Princess Bride".

"Inconceivable !"
"I know something you don't know. I'm not left-handed either !"
"Never get involved in a land war in Asia."
"Sleep well and dream of large women." -spoken to a giant
"Mawwidge, that dweam within a dweam" - Peter Cook as the Impressive Clergyman.

There's more, but you're better off watching the film

It's not even the best Bond baddy line - it ought to be 'No, Mr Bond. I expect you to die!"

One of the finest lines in any movie, ever:

"Infamy, infamy. They've all got it in for me !"

God bless the Carry On films.

Cameron: The 1961 Ferrari 250GT California. Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love, it is his passion.
Ferris: It is his fault he didn't lock the garage.
