So this year's fforum pantomine is Aladin then? Isn't it a bit early to be worrying about that?

Sounds like Pierrot to me.

You can call me overly liberal/conservative/demented (delete as applicable) if you like but a lad in a peridot doesn't sound like family entertainment to me!

In that case peridots should fit in rather well around here. Would large ones be peristones?

I was more thinking along the lines of periboulders but hey. This is all just subjective anyway. I suppose if we're going to get technical it should be peri-12mm(give or take 1mm) but that just doesn't sound as charmingly silly.

Peridot.

*blink*

Peridot is the principle mineral making up peridotite, which is a rock what live in the Earth's mantle. At least that is what I remember them being without looking them up....

I guess I'm too young to know of this pantomime but it does sound great! Martin has been telling me all sorts of fun and interesting things about it. (Using his actual mouth and not a keyboard for a change.) If we do Aladin I call dibs on being the Genie! (I've even been reading "A Thousand Nights And A Night Of Arabian Tales" so I can keep things rather true to the source! ~sly wink~)

No - you are the baddie. How could you not think you were going to be the baddie? Did anybody else think that switchbadger might not be the baddie? You have the cloak, the hat and the crazy laugh - of course you were going to be the baddie. Who else did you think was going to be the baddie?

<Considers all other fforum users for role>

Oh hang on a minute, I think I might sense a problem. How many baddies are there in the average pantomime?

The average would be three.
There is usually the chief bad guy (quite often an evil spirit of chaos), another bad guy with whom he confers (so that from these conversations the audience gets the gist of what he is doing and why) and a henchman who enacts the plans.

The male 'hero' has to be played by a female (of course) and after the transformation scene (if we want to go really traditional) this then is played by Harlequin (could be either male or female).

There are usually a couple of roles for 'dames' - older female roles played by older male actors of outstanding repute, talent and skill. Ahem. <whistles nonchalantly, idly toeing the ground, waiting for tap on the shoulder>

Wardrobe have just informed me that they've gone over budget, so we have to do the next few scenes in leftover costumes from the old Dr Who series... Only, could we try not to damage them please as they are only on loan. It's caused a script re-write, but really, who'd notice that around here?

If they'd let us have the old Lost in Space stuff we could really go to town with quality special effects.

Hey I'm just glad that we weren't forced to try improv with old Tarzan and Jane costumes. Then again if we are doing the original Alladin then it would be easier for all the "R18" scenes.

Appears in old-style cyberman costume - rabbit ears in place of atenna-y bits.

If we're getting old MST3K costumes I want to be the silhouette of the seats!
