Is Jasper your absolute favorite writer?

I can't make up my mind. I like Jasper the best on every other weekday, and Douglas Adams on the rest. Gary K. Wolf gets the weekends.

How about you?

Difficult to answer, really. Are we talking of sci-fi/fantasy authors, comic authors or everyone? I would certainly place him in the top five for sci-fi/fantasy and probably the top three for comic writing, but overall?

He is one of the very few authors where I will buy his new book as soon as it is available, without at least dipping in to check. (The others are the usual suspects - PTerry, Chris Moore and William Ashbless.)

I don't think genre makes much of a difference. It's all about whether the author has a story worth telling, handles the language properly, and keeps your attention, right? Jasper does all of those splendidly. I'm a big fan of sci-fi and (non-High) fantasy, so naturally my favorite authors reflect that.

Hmmm.... I do not have an absolute favourite. That said, I like Fforde, Pratchett, Freer. Older sf (Clarke, Asimov, Vance et al) also works.

Do not know how to answer this one really.

Can't say that I have absolute favourites, they swing my mood. pTerry and Jasper are definitely there. Martin Amis, Len Deighton and John LeCarre are always good for a well composed story.

I think he's favourite active author, or in fact my only current author. I drifted off from Pratchett after suffering through the awfully big tome phase and haven't found anyone else.

Yes, it's Fforde all the way, with an occasional random thing thrown in.

I've been studying philosophy too long to be comfortable with absolutes regarding anything.

Which begs the question "who's your favourite philosopher"?

I'm leaning toward camus... But to be honest, it's probably because the outsider and the myth of sisyphus were among some of the book upon which I was taught to read, and I still own them (all bent out of shape from being sat on though).

One of the top 5.

Mostly read Jasper, Tom Holt, Christopher Moore and PTerry with some Gaiman chucked in for fun.

Hi Bickaxe. Welcome. You will find that your faves match quite a few of the posters here. Help yourself to pies and look out for Speckles, who can get a bit boisterous.

I have quite a few favorite writers, you can check the MySpace blog for the list of those I read repeatedly-
I think you'll recognize most of the names... ;)

Too hard to choose a philosopher- has anybody said KRS-ONE yet?

I usually state that Jasper Fforde is my favorite living author. I tend to favor moldy stuff like Shakespeare and Austin.
