Are we the only ones to go and see Fern Gully 3 - Revenge of the Smurfs?

Nope. I saw it on Saturday with my housemate.

What did you think?

For what it is worth, I would recommend anyone to see it in 3-d, just don't expect more than 1.5-d characters or a plot thinner than tracing-paper.

I Heard one reviewer say that you should treat it like an opera: don't worry about the story, just bask in the spectacle, which seemed pretty accurate to me.

Well, I have a bad eye so 3-d doesn't work for me. If I were to comment I would say that it was a solid attempt to make a spectacular sci-fi movie with great ideas, but a typically mediocre James Cameron storyline. Great visuals, average story. At least he's not as bad as Ridley Scott though.

Rant rant rant.

PS I can also rant about 'Sherlock Holmes' if anyone's interested...

Please continue ranting, both of you. I'm taking notes of what to see for my first film of the year at some point.

Technically, only one of us is ranting.

I enjoyed it, I think maybe I might have been in opera mode.

Though since, a friend rather disliked it, and I asked why.
He pointed out the larger picture of this environmental picture painted by the movie, yet it's endorsed by McDonalds :/

So the cultural imperialism and clumsy jar-jar binks racism didn't bother them?

You mean the Pocohantas remake? Not seen it, living too far from any cinemas.

Sherlock Holmes movie?

I will stick to Fern Gully but see the Pochohontas reference.

(Sherlock Holmes as as a beat-em-up by Guy Richie. Much closer to Conan Doyle's Holmes than many,)

Skidz is right about Sherlock. The only real problems I had were that it was very disorienting at times, and that the ending was fairly shambolic.

Will have to track it down....

I enjoyed the Fantastic Mr Fox, the stop motion animation was good - no need for this new-fangled 3d stuff with a good story.

They were setting it up for a sequel-
we also liked it, especially the bits where we got to see Holmes' thought processes...

Now I'm just waiting for ALICE IN WONDERLAND...

Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton film? Wow, I didn't expect that!

I don't think that mrs. SkidMarks will let me NOT see it. Even with that combination, I doubt that it will top the Imaginarium, though.

Films to look out for in the immediate future? Anyone?

Alice In Wonderland? Robin Hood? Captain Aardvark Conquers Mississippi?

We will be going to see a selection from "Ponyo", "Invictus", "Book of Eli", "Soloman Kane", "Percy Jackson" and if I have any say in it the Fireman Sam movie.

Mrs. SkidMarks has told me that "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wolfman" are not optional. We don't necessarily have to see them on opening night, but I would fear for my life if we don't see them within a few days of opening.
