20) Speaking of threads, is it a sewing machine? No.

You have been asking so many silly wide-off-the-mark questions that you reached the limit just when the pun started. On the other hand, looking back I could and should have given some extra hints at an earlier stage.

So, in order to allow for some more fun, I decided to renumber the questions, adding a few hints on the run.

0) Primarily mineral, but may contain vegetable and even animal elements.
1) Would it fit inside the average bread box? No. See question 4.
2) Does it have moving parts? Yes, definitely.
3) Is it electric/electronic? Not necessarily (somewhat depending on its age; key word is age).
4) Is it a form of transport? Yes. Added hint: It is a form of mass transport.
5) Does it have at least 3 wheels? Yes. Gears do not count as wheels. Other wheels do.
6) Is it normally found on roads? No.
7) Is it found on farms? No. [air of sillyness]
8) Does it need rails? No.
9) Can it fly? No. [mist of sillyness]
10) Is it usually used by a person with a disability? No.
N11) Condensation of sillyness:
N11a) (ex 11) Is it a shopping trolley? No.
N11b) (ex 12) Is it a pram? No.
N11c) (ex 15) Is it a lawnmower (the ones with seats)? No. No lawnmower whatsoever.
N11d) (ex 16) Is it one of those motorized skateboards/scooters/whatever those durn kids are calling it these days? No. Not even distantly.
N11e) (ex 17) Is it a tank (They have wheels inside the tracks)? No.
N11f) (ex 20) Is it a sewing machine? No.
N12) (ex 13) Can it be folded up? No.
N13) (ex 14) Does it normally have an engine? Yes! The engine is essential.
N14) (ex 18) Is it a bicycle? No. But in a certain way a bicycle bears some resemblance to the item sought for.
N15) (ex 19) Does it usually have 4wheels? No. Five wheels is more typical for it.
N16) Is it common, or expensive? Uncommon (with one exception). Therefore priceless.
N17) Does it matter if it's red? No. Color is completely irrelevant (except in the exception mentioned in N16 where it is essential).
N18)
N19)
N20)

May I repeat once more that I took some questions very literally, especially the one that deluded you most; but I don't tell you which one it is because that will give away it immediately. I took this cheat from one of Jasper's books (you ought to have figured out which one).

Not yet, even more so as I am not female.

The german version of this game, called "Ich sehe was was Du nicht siehst" (I can see something that you don't) doesn't have a limit for the number of questions asked, so I have no problem going on and being honest about it:

21) Does it transport people?

N18) (translated from German 21) Does it transport people? Yes. Amongst others.

I would like to guess train except for the answer to Question 8 that it does not need rails. Hold on, though--there are trains that don't need rails! (Other types of frictionless track could justifiably be considered distinct from rails.)

22 or 19) Is it a train?

On the other hand, restricting to twenty questions allows a kind of mercy rule and we can move on to the next go. Also, it makes the last few questions tenser.

Go on, tell us the answer.

19) (alt. 22) Is it a train? Yes, it is a kind of train. But it is not the final answer.

You may start to ponder on the odd spinning wheel now.

The spinning wheel could be gyroscope that would be the connection to JFf, but all the monorails that I have seen are underslung.

However, I will guess at monorail train

20) A monorail train? Indeed, the gyroscopic monorail was what I had in mind.

Contrary to current monorails it is not underslung, but runs on a single rail similar to normal railway rails. I hope you can forgive my literal answer to "Does it need rails": It only needs one. Also I didn't count a rail as a road, despite the word "railroad".

The pictures of coaches I saw show four wheels on the rail, whereas at least one gyroscopic wheel is spinning for lateral stability. Thence my answer that five wheels are typical, although I admit that combinations of multiples are possible.

Mr SkidMarks, it's your turn.

Thank you delacuesta. I wholeheartedly agree with you logic about rails and wheels.

I would be interested to see the a gyroscopic monorail. Is it current or a vintage idea?

0) It is usually vegetable, but frequently vegetable and animal. There is no reason why it could not be mineral, but that is not normal.

<It is vintage and even then only as prototypes. See wikipedia>

Delacuesta, may I say what an excellent romp you put us through! I had never heard of one of these before and the Wikipedia article was most interesting!

To get the next one started off…

1) Is it edible?

<i thought it was a sewing machine, too. sewing machine, gyroscopic monorail, they are pretty much the same... ha>
<was I *ever* off on that one!!!>

1) Is it edible? - In the strictest sense, yes.
2)Is it bigger than a breadbox? not usually, but quite a few are.

To be honest, I wouldn't have thought of the theme if it hadn't appeared in Shades of Grey. I remember Jasper's pages on the book made mention of it, but I can't find it anymore. Only this.

Well, let's stick to clichées.

Does it have moving parts?

Does one buy it at the supermarket?

<hopes that this will be answered by a simple Yes or No for a change>
