The new Doctor

Well, now that we have seen him, what do we think?

For what it is worth, I was fully expecting to dislike him, but overall I was impressed.

Actually I was very impressed by the whole thing. As a loather of the previous team's slapdash approach, I enjoyed the sleekness and solidity of it all. There was even a use of time travel as a plot point which hardly ever happened before.

The Doctor's outfit is a bit plain though.

I've only seen the first ep, but the whole shiny new tardis, shiny new companion, shiny new obvious story arc was perhaps a way to distract us from the lack of shiny new personality? Although I have friends who assure me he has his own by ep 3.

Hmm... It has more or less maintained the high standard... except for Episode 3. Episode three was pretty bad.

I was thinking that it was pretty good so far. Stories could do with a bit more , but not bad.

With the exception of the Beeb putting an animated trail for "Graham Norton and the search for yet another annoying bimbo" across the ending of last night's programme, I have enjoyed them, but agree that #3 was the weakest. (I still enjoyed it, though.)

Me an the little gegs are absolutely loving the new series, but then since I hated both David Tennent and Catherine Tate so much I couldn't watch them, my opinions are probably utterly invalid.

Ah. Tennant became so popular that underdog-lovers turned on him,

Hmmm. This week's was odd. He is very reminiscent of the First Doctor.

Did you notice that his psychic paper i.d. had a picture of the first Doctor (William Hartnell)?

The first thing my husband said was: He's Tigger!

More specifically, he's manic- I was just thinking that he's young but that may just mean I'm mean old...

Which one was episode 3?

I've seen some of them now but not in order & not complete at a Dr. Who fan club meeting last week-
when we left, they were playing a completely different show that involved a robot dog & I couldn't stay awake for it...

That would probably have been "K-9 & Company"

re K-9: has the new K-9 show from Australian Tv aired on Sky yet?

re new Doc: my wife is not impressed; she is an Ecclestone fan. I have a theory that you prefer the first Doctor you see and have reservations about successors. So i was pleasantly surprised to see MY Doctor on the psychic paper.

re Victory of the Daleks: a poor rewrite of the basic plot of the old Power of the Daleks story, poor backgrounds, especially that of London with the barrage balloons- series 2 story which introduced Jack was much better done and those Smarties-coloured golden-eyed new Daleks just aren't scary - look like the 1960s toys.

So far I think there has been too much rehashing of older material and not enough new ideas.

As usual, I 90% agree with Tieff. However my first Doctor was William Hartnell, but my favourites are Tom Baker & Sylvester McCoy. (I suppose I can't really include Petr Cushing or Jim Broadbent, can I?)

Miss Arisia is enjoying it so far. We're both happy to see Amy isn't actually lovestruck by 11.

Has anyone noticed that the Tardis has been blown up?
Should be a very interesting set of future epiodes.
At least this doctor tends not to run around as much as the last.

But was the TARDIS blown up in the past or will it be blown up in the future?

If it has had such a big refit, why wasn't the chameleon circuit also fixed?

I reckon the new tardis is a giant dalek in disguise. Just sayin'...

Hmm. If it weren't for spoilers that last one would have a lot of debate attached to it.
