I believe Jasper and Mari are the only ones with moderator status on the Fforum, and I don't know how often they actually check in. Do we have a preferred way to contact them about this recent bout of spam? Shall one of us send Jasper an email?

I did report it towards the end of last week and did some checking over the weekend. I suspect that They are a bit busy, but hope that they can delete the accounts soon!

Well, the spammer keeps changing accounts, so I think he/she is being removed and then keeps re-registering. There's no way to tell if any of us is genuine until we start posting.

It's all the same IP address, though. Maybe they can ban the address entirely?

We can't see the IP address, but that is likely to change anyway, we can see most of the domain. It is the bit after your name at the top of the post. For you, Egon it is (something hidden by the admins).zone6.bethere.co.uk. All the spam originates in China. They are not necessarily being deleted, but the Bot which generates them will register new names every so often, then try posts, so we may see all them posting (along with others).

What I'd like to know is why people who generate and create technological ways to spam and waste all their obvious intellect on something so inane and daft? If they could be gathered up and persuaded to work for big software companies like Microsoft, I am sure Vista would have been slightly more.. what's the word. Useable. (Apologies to those who like vista).

I think the answer is: No, we don't have moderators. At least these addresses active now could be blocked if we had some.
