While at the Ffiesta mrs SkidMarks and I saw 2/3rds of "Prometheus" (power cut!).

When we arrived back home, we went to see it again and this time saw all of it. I must admit that I was disappointed with it. It was beautifully shot, had superb 3d, but was too obvious. A little too much like a remake of Alien for my taste.

Before we went to Swindon, we saw "Men in Black 3". After MIB 2, I was not expecting much, but thoroughly enjoyed it. I suspect that having a low expectation helped my enjoyment.

I like good movies, but in general when it is going to cost £30+ ($45+, Aud45+, NZD 60+, Euro - probably about a million by now) for two of us, entertainment comes higher than culture. I can wait to buy a Blu-Ray or DVD of "The Artist". That said, we wold have killed to see Ralph Fiennes' "Coriolanus" on the big screen, but having missed it, will settle on the Blu-Ray.

Anyway, what films will you see on the big screen and which can be left until they are available in small screen format? (Released or to be released, not your fantasy choices please.)

I can wait for Prometheus, was looking forward to it but then looked into a bit more as more info came out.
American Pie 4 and The Dictator will have to wait too. Can't remember what else there is coming out...

Another film I seem to see a lot on the small screen (usually at Christmas time when I'm half asleep) is Zulu. Should imagine that's great on a big screen. Real extras not CGI rent-a-crowd.

All LOTR films should be seen on a large screen. If I was king I would make it compulsory. After recovering from the operation that is.

Ah, movies... I have returned to a movie thread.

Recently I've seen 'Dark Knight Rises' and something I've blotted entirely from memory. They were both pretty naff and disappointing. However coming up sometime soon is 'Looper' which has a nice conceit in prospect and 'Joker'.

Oh, the other movie was 'The Amazing Spider-Man', or so my blog reassures me. Sheesh. Cranes all in a row.

When I was at university in Aberystwyth I used to love going to see revivals at the Arts Centre. The best one was 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom'. Happy days.

Oh, I should say something about 'Joker': It's in Hindi, set in a village fool of ex-asylum inmates, and apparently they're visited by aliens. Enough said. Might be awesome.

We enjoyed "Dark Knight Rises" and loved "Brave". Today we will possibly up the big bang quotient and Expendables 2.

The Lorax is now probably off the shopping list.

Coriolanus was as good as we had hoped and now really wish that we had seen it on a big screen.

I am waiting for a release of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rodgers films, colourised if possible.

Otherwise I think I will wait for the Dam Busters to be shown again.

Most modern movies, especially where they have reworked an old and/or nonEnglish voiced film, are not worth the money to go and watch, especially at the prices that are charged these days.

If you look at what is shown on Australain TV across all the networks you find that about 60% of all programs were made 20 years or more ago, and most of the movies of any merit are almost as old. especially if shown on SBS (Australia that is, not the European porn network)

I would like to start a campaign to bring back Batman.

Movies. I last went out to the movies in... 1976. A young friend dragged me there, to see Logan's Run. On my 30th birthday. (I must have seen something later, but I can't remember anything.)

Google Logan's Run if you don't see his point. Yes, 36 years later we're still good friends. Bastard. Yes, you, Chris. It'll happen. Oh yes. You won't expect it, but then... Pow!! I can wait.

Actually, although I don't go out to the movies I quite enjoy a good/bad TV movie. I recently watched "Transporter 3" and despite the arson, property destruction, mayhem and murder I thought the laws most often broken were the laws of physics. It's still fun, though.

Soon I shall see 'Premium Rush' and 'Looper' as part of 2012's Joseph Gordon-Levitt festival.

I wish 'Star Wars' was still called 'Star Wars'... Oh, silly days...

I favour the one not usually favoured, as a matter of principle.

Raiders over Temple, but Crusade over the pair of them. (In its favour, Temple had the funniest continuity errors.)

Overall, though, Crystal Skull for proving that they should have stopped at three.

Pretty sure "Dark Knight Rises" was the last one I saw-
if I haven't mentioned it before, I own a comic shop
& we do cross-promotion for some movies with a local theater-
anyway, we were at the midnight release but had to go back later to actually watch the movie-
couldn't get an overnight babysitter & nobody wants us showing up at 4am to pick up the kid...

Before that, saw the Lincoln movie but no midnight showing of that one-
think I need to re-read the book soon...

'Looper' was technically good but cold while 'Premium Rush' was well toned but dopey. Ah, where do these all come from and how does film survive when tv is so much better?

We found "Looper" reasonable (so long as you remember to ignore plot holes slightly bigger than the cinema). Do you think that "3rd Rock" prepared him for this?
