Its only a passing reference (actually two) in John Scalzi's "Redshirts". If you like "Star Trek" and "Galaxy Quest" you will get the reference and you might like the book as well. Its funny.

Right now (2:40 am Saturday New Zealand time) the Google Search page has a wee interactive game (with sound) for the 46th anniversary of Star Trek.

Note that the "e" of Google has a Red Shirt before playing the micro-mini game.
