peeves

I'm peeved with being OLD and being too inert to do something about my IT

ignorance

Another peeve: no matter how much I drink I can't fall on the floor anymore. Rats!!

I'd like to say "I hear you!" in agreement, but being old myself I don't hear too well.

I'm puzzled by your drinking problem. I've found that after the required number of bottles I can usually find the floor without even aiming. To quote the person who said it before me:

I don't have a drinking problem.

I drink.

I fall down.

No problem.

But I'm a lady: I drink, I go and do another chore.

I am not peeved by being temporally enhanced.

The option is not acceptable.

As for doing anything about it don't all things come to he who waits?

Like haemorroids?

I have waited an adequately long time but it seems the kitchen floor does not clean itself.

The idea of a haemorrhoidal waiter serving me a meal makes my appetite quiescent, I can tell you!!

I think OB's peeve in the starter post to this thread overrides all other peeves.

Getting old is undesirable. It sucks, and my rosebud collection is minimal. My supply of cakes and ale is diminishing, each bon mot has become bonier to the point of being skeletal.

I rambled on like this for quite a few whinging paragraphs before deleting it all in favour of the executive summary.

Getting old sucks. No peeve exceeds the peeve of failing faculties.

Yes, getting old and turning into a Great White Prune is not to be recommended.

SO DON'T DO IT>

Getting old is so much better than the alternative.

As the Clark's (an unfortunately not well supported British shoe maker) once said "Act your shoe size not your age.

Unfortunately mrs SkidMarks insists that I don't quite manage to act my shoe size even though the creaky bones mean that I sometimes feel my age.

To make things feel better take the adage 'You're only as old as you feel.'

find an exciting nineteen year old of whaichever sexual persuasion you are and feel.

Break down and cry coz it brings back memeories but not anything else.

Reminded of benny Hill verse which goes something like this:

Little boy sitting in gutter crying.
Old man asks why?
Little boy says' cos I can't do what the big boys do'
and the old man sat down and cried with him.

Not verbatim but you can get the gist.

What do the ladies, God bless 'em, think?

Well Geg who's a lady says that getting older is better than the alternative which in my opinion means getting younger. If only. Looking back over my life I would say the best years were ages 45 to 55 : before I got the peeves!

I feel that most males feel their best years were between 45 to 55.

Most females to whom I have listened think 29 were their best years.

Were they kangaroos??

Another peeve to think about. It seems to me that in order to preserve one's youth and good health these days one must stop eating ordinary foodstuffs and fill ones face with vastly expensive things with unpronounceable names and drink rum substances made from berries that have passed at least ten times through the intestines of at least ten various rare beasties found in the foothills of some mountain or other in Kyrgystan or some such place. Daft I call it.

It is the old "you won't live longer, it will just feel longer" syndrome.

I just heard "rum" and then stopped listening.

Rum and berries works, as long as you dump a bucket of icecream on top and then smoosh it up. Or is that defying the point? I've lost track.

Bertrand Russell, mathematician and dirty old man, had 4 wives, and lived to 94 or so on a bottle of whisky per day.

I don't know about the ice cream.
