Categorisation

Well, I've never started a topic before. So this is exciting.

So, we keep being told that Jasper's books defy categorisation. I was reminded of this when I noticed them in the "Crime" section of WH Smiths yesterday. What sections are they in in other shops?

I've also seen it listed in Science Fiction, Humor and Romance (of all things! Probably because his cousin, Katie Fforde, writes romance and the categorizers get confused)

His work is very much a cross-genre type of thing!

Here I've usually found it in Fiction, although I did spot a copy in SF once.

Chapters has it in 'fiction' as well. Interestingly enough, bookstores in Canada carry British, not US version. By the way, anyone pre-ordered the Well of Lost Plots yet?

I've not pre-ordered, I'll probably just wait till it comes out. There are two proofs on ebay just now, for 25 and 30 quid... tempting!

Who are these bums who sell their proofs? Have they no soul?

I preordered mine WAY back in January! LOL

and as for the Canadians having the UK versions, yep, they do. In fact, that's where I ordered my knock-around paperback versions that I read and use for reference. My other copies are all lovingly stored on my bookshelf next to my computer where I can see them, handle them gingerly and sigh (they're all signed, except my CDs of TEA...damn! shoulda taken those along too!)

[DING! DING! Next stop....Über-geekdom!]

Just out of interest, how many of us own 'reference' copies - with or without notes in the margins?

(no notes in the margin yet, just post-it notes and the occasional bookmark)

I may have to get new copies, as mine are battered beyond belief due to being referenced so often (I keep getting e-mails from people pointing out all the things I've got wrong in the Notes, or spotting things I'd missed completely - well, I've never read 'Murders in the Rue Morgue' - or asking me what various British things are ... it's good fun, but it don't half wear 'em out!). I don't write in them though. My mother was a librarian, and brought me up proper.

Coo, that's impressive...I've just got the one copy of each of the three. And none of them are signed. Will have to rectify this. When will the signing dates be announced?

And are there hardback uk editions? Never seen any....

geez, Andrea, I thought *I* was bad!

I have:

TEA: 1 first edition signed UK Hardcover
1 first edition signed US Hardcover
1 random beat up UK/Canada reference copy Paperback
1 second edition signed US Paperback (couldn't get the first edition dammit!)
1 unsigned US Audio version on CD

LIAGB: 1 first edition signed UK Hardcover
2 first edition signed US Hardcovers (one is for a gift) (plus I bought 2 others already given away)
1 random beat up UK/Canada reference copy Paperback

WOLP: 1 hopefully signed (supposedly will be) 1st edition UK copy has been pre-ordered. Counting the nano-seconds until it arrives!

I still need to get LIAGB in Audio CD, Proof copies of all 3 from each country and Aussie versions as well. My goal is to attempt to collect one of every version out there. Why? Just cuz I want to have the complete set. And oddly enough, my hubby supports me in this. What a nice hubby! (I think he figures it keeps me out of trouble and keeps me from being out shopping and doing other expensive girly things! LOL)

Oh, and I've purchased NUMEROUS copies of both books to give as gifts. At least 6 copies of each...

just doing my part to put Jasper's kids through college!

the hard backs come out the same day as the paperbacks, they are hard to get hold of as most shops only stock the paperback

some are on ebay at the moment

most places doing signings have them and will get you signed ones too if you cant get

I want australian copies to add to the collection, hmm now who do I know...
