Tribute...

I didn't think this was good enough for Whatever Next, not least as I'm unsure how many people are aware of Tenacious D. For those who are aware, however, I humbly offer this *ahem* tribute...

-----------------------------------

[spoken] This is the greatest and best fiction in the world. Tribute.

Long time ago, me and my brother Kyle here
were trudging through some long and dirgesome tome.
All of a sudden, there shined a shiny demon... in the middle... of our read.
And he said:

[sung] 'Read me the best book in the world, or I'll eat your soul'

Well me and Kyle, we looked at each other, and we each said

'Okay'

[sung] And we read the first book that came to our hands, and it just so happened to be -
It was the best book in the world, it was written by Jasper Fforde.

Look into my eyes and it's easy to see
That with T-E-A and L-I-A-G-B
Then WOLP makes three.
Once every hundred-odd words or so,
There's a pun doth shine and the mirth doth grow
And the face doth glow...

[spoken] Needless to say, the beast was stunned.
Whip-crack went his schwumpy tail,
And the beast was done.
He asked us: "(snort) Be you angels?"
And we said, "Nay. We are Fforde Ffans."
Rock!
[sung. badly] Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh-ah-ah,
Ohhh, whoah, ah-whoah-oh!

[sung better]This is not The Greatest Book in the World, no.
This is just a tribute.
Couldn't quote The whole Greatest Book in the World, no, no.
This is a tribute, oh, to The Greatest Book in the World,
All right! It was The Greatest Book in the World,
All right! It was the best litratechin' book - the greatest book in the world.

[2-part skat]
gee, ooh de flliga goo gee ooga fligoo giggoo ooh fligoo giggoo ge gee oogah
goo gee oogah geegoogegegee, fligoo giggoo,oh flig, oh mama Lucifer

[spoken]
And the peculiar thing is this my friends:
the book we read on that fateful night it didn't actually sound
anything like this song.

[sung]
This is just a tribute! You gotta believe me!
And I wish you were there! Just a matter of opinion.
Ah, books! Good God, God lovin',
So surprised to find you can't stop it.
[skat]
All right! All right!

Some of these parodies make me want to listen to the original. I don't know if I'd always actually like the original, but it's always interesting to know exactly whence the michael is being so skilfully extracted.

Actually, I've had to change about four words... This really was that simple. The original is a piss-take to start with...

They're a band. Well, a duo. More of a send-up of a rock band. I told you that I wasn't sure you'd have heard of them.

ooh - there's still a Bowdleriser activated. Fantastic - it's supposed to be a family site...

Apparently Nottingham used to be Snothingham, but the Normans had a problem pronouncing 's' at the start of words and with 'th' in the middle. Fortunately for Scunthorpe, they were never truly conquered....

I'm trying very hard to keep cussing out of the parody I'm working on for WN, but Eminem makes it hard, y'know...

Who is it who said "It wasn't until my third year of university that I worked out how to say it without the conductor giving me a clip round the earhole"?
