Oi, not all Man U fans are evil vampires - and I almost live in Manchester (in fact while it existed I lived in Greater Manchester). I've worked in Manchester a lot too, and I go there shopping and drinking beer quite regularly. Anyway Jon - you can talk you live almost 300 miles from your club.

H'mm... I must admit I live almost 200 miles from mine... but then nobody ever resents a QPR fan!

Ah, yes, but, my mother-in-law's house is only ten minutes walk from the ground ... this is a much closer connection than anybody might have with, say, Hull City, to take a random example of clubs that finished lower down the table than Torquay did.

And it is true that not all Man U fans are evil vampires .... most of them are just zombies with their brains sucked out .....

I used to support Man U in the early 90s, but only cos I had a thing for Lee Sharpe and Ryan Giggs. Which I think is a valid excuse.

I did know all the words to Come On Ye Reds, though, and watched the video frequently. Hmm.

Lee Sharpe was of course a former Torquay player .... and fancying Ryan Giggs is possibly certifiable. He's a good enough player but he looks cross-eyed, and has the expression of a stunned haddock.

His Dad (Danny Wilson) was a villain. I remember him playing Rugby League for Swinton; a genius for two minutes and a complete waste of space for 78. I was told he originally signed for Oldham, but got moved on sharpish after being found in bed with the chairman's daughter.

Yes, I know it's certifiable, but I got over it. He was better looking, then. It was the cheekbones.

Danny Wilson - more 80s pop! Mary's Prayer was fantastic!

Note for confused people; these are two different Danny Wilsons. Which reminds of the infamous Jocky Wilson Incident on TOTP.

What you mean the Scottish darts player didn't have a hit with 'Reet Petite' back in the 50's...

No connection with Hull City? One of my best mates is a season ticket holder and is actually from Hull and not a Brummie who's emigrated south (although moving that far away from Birmingham does show sense).

Btw - if we're talking about player's dads then I'd like to mention Gary and Phil Neville's dad Neville. For no other reason than Neville Neville is a great name (so good they named him twice).

Claire's family actually support Wolves, for some reason. She did have one of Torquay's players lodging in her house, though.

Didn't David Bowie do 'Neville Neville'?

I'm sure that would have made the front page of the News of the World.

Oh, now I understand......

There are _three_ different Danny Wilsons. The other one used to manage Sheffield Wednesday, in a manner of speaking. Let's just say I was very happy not to be a Wednesday fan at the time.

Simon... pfffft to you, we'll be back in the Premiership one day before you know it! (Who do you support, anyway? If you're going to take the rip out of me, let it at least be mutual!)

Adam - Hey mate, Birmingham is 'cultured' now, don't you know? Anyway, they can't do proper balti down south, or duvet sized naans for that matter. I should know I've looked everywhere.

It brings a tear to my eye, it really does...

Sarah _ Ah. Actually I don't support any soccer team (except for England, of course :-) at all, and never have done, as I've never really found watching other people's sporting activities that interesting. Maybe if my father had supported a team and taken me along to matches during my childhood the situation would be different, but he wasn't interested in the idea either.
(My mother has been an Arsenal supporter since her childhood, although HER father supported Millwall, but she never took me to any matches either... I think that one of her brothers, now deceased, may have supported QPR.) My younger brother decided to support West Ham during HIS childhood, and still does although as he now lives in Invergordon (which is 20 or 30 miles past Inverness) he's currently even further from their ground than anybody else who's commented on the topic in this thread is from their own favoured team.

One of my Dad's bowling buddies is a fan of Norwich city and Delia Smith. I managed to get hold of a 15' long tram poster, advertizing 'Delia on breasts and legs' for him to display in his private box
