Bounce about it enough, and someone's bound to read it just to shut you up. ;-)

Oh no, i think you'll find that'd just make me talk about it even more . . .

Which reminds me, I must reread both the first 2 books before July, so I'm nice and ready and up to speed for TWOLP.

Unfortunately, that means remembering who I last lent them to . . . I have this teriible habit of lending my favourite books to anyone and everyone, then forgetting where they are. Maybe I should just by new copies and chain these ones to the bookshelves to stop it happening (I've already bought TEA three times cos of this habit -- well at least it means Mr Ff isn't losing out on sales).

I'm afraid that I have now taken the decision never to lend any more books - I've lost too many that way, or they have come back with stains on (never enquire too deeply as to what these may be!), torn or in such a state of disrepair.

I'll give away ones I've read and have no intention of re-reading though.

I'd only lend books I'm not bothered about seeing again, unless it's to someone I know really well. Lost a 1st ed HC of Lords and Ladies (pratchett) years ago (not long after it came out). Worth a small fortune these days.

I tend not to lend books. Lost too many that way. But I do buy people books I have enjoyed. I think I've put at least one of Jasper's kids through college by now!

I only ever lend books to my parents, cos I know where they live .... I know a whole load of people I would never lend books to, cos I know they'd be gone for ever.

(Oh, allright, I'd lend them to Adam and dawn, too. But I'd want a deposit).

Many years ago I lent a schoolfriend my (earliest-purchased) copy of LOTR, which was in the form of three paperbacks with cover art by JRRT... and his dog, an Alsatian puppy, ATE 'The Two Towers'... and I couldn't find a replacement copy of that volume in that edition. Mutter, grumble, snarrrl.
I do NOT like Alsatians...

Oh, dear! I like them myself (used to have a lovely one called Perkins), but I must admit my love for any dog would be severely strained if it ate one of my books.

That's one thing with cats. Not even Chomsky has ever been known to attempt to eat a book, no matter what else he's eaten in the past.

My first ever budgie used to like to lace the top of each page in my books, I think he felt he was joining in the experience. I was about 10 at the time so don't have many of those books left, but occasionally I find one and remember fondly the white budgie with orange legs and tail (he tried bathing in tomato soup)

Re: "That's one thing with cats. Not even Chomsky has ever been known to attempt to eat a book, no matter what else he's eaten in the past." (Sarah)

Well, not "eat" maybe, but one of my cats (I have six) will sink her teeth into any book or magazine I leave on my bed or nightstand when I go to work. (She won't bother the ones on bookcases.) Apparently she loves the feel of her sharp little teeth sinking into a thick stack of paper. So I have to tuck my current reading into a bedside drawer, and leave a few cardboard boxes strategically scattered about for her dental pleasure. Better that than my arm.

This particular cat, though, may be under the impression she's a dog, so perhaps that explains the deviance. She also licks your face, follows complete strangers about begging for attention, and rolls over exposing her belly when someone reaches down. (At least she doesn't sniff crotches or hump legs.)
