I like the idea of meeting up in Haworth. Those of us who are feeling energetic can wander up to High Withens (and be attacked by sheep).

Andrea: Excellent idea...I have been trying to get to Haworth for the last 5 years and simply *must* do it this summer or burst!

And, No, before any of you remark on the fact, it is not my map reading skills that are at fault, but Haworth is south of the border, which hubby, like most Scotsmen has an aversion to.

sounds like a good plan!

Just a word of caution: we went up there last bank holiday cos it was something i'd wanted to do for ages too. DO Not Park In the car park opposite the Edinburgh Mill Shop. It seems like the most obvious place to park, and looks like a municipal car park. It is in fact privately owned and the owner is in the words of the local MP a "particularly unhelpful individual". We were clamped there for being 12 mins late, cost us £35 which was bad enough, but more than that the clamping bloke and his mates were awful people f-ing and worse all over the place. Its bad enough having to pay the money without being verbally attacked too!

I wrote to the MP who was great and really sorry, and said she has had hundreds of complaints about this guy's behaviour. The local paper is running a campaign against him, and so she passed my letter on to them.

Howarth is lovely and well worth a visit or two, but this guy will do serious harm to the tourist industry there if he remains unchecked.

I wondered about doing the train line too, Worth Valley Railway is a fantastic line to travel on, great fun. We could meet up, travel along the line walk (slowly, very slowly) up the hill into the village and spend time there. Then do the return trip later on. Waving out at the Railway Children's station too :-)

Oh Carla - you naughty naughty girl! I've had the list since lunchtime and not said anything at all!!

Mind you - I was appalled at the state of this official BBC Press Release - full of spelling mistakes (Eliot instead of Elliot) and they actually had the author of Alice in Wonderland as ............wait for it.................

Yes, I thought of doing the steam train ... which would solve the parking problem and also allow people to visit without taking the car at all; if we were to meet at Keighley (easily accessible from the national rail network, nice shiny new electric trains every 15 mins from Leeds) where car parking is both plentiful and @#$%&, have a jolly ride on the steamer down to Haworth, do the Bronte thing, call in the Woolpack and/or the Black Bull, maybe walk up to Top Withens to get wuthered, drag Skiffle out of whichever secondhand bookshop she's buying pony books in, board the puffer once more and so wend our merry way.

Do we have a plan here? Votes for interest and posible dates, please!

I'll join in as long as I can work out a way to get there. This may mean persuading David he also wants to go. We shall see...

Well, as I said there are lots of trains from Leeds to Keighley .... and there are lots of trains from Sheffield to Leeds, too!

Susan: I have the list here and the spelling and authors seem to be correct.

Anyway, I have read 32 of the books on the list and there's 8 I've only seen TV or Film versions, so it's 40 books I'm aware of the contents... not a bad percentage...

Sarah; if you can persuade Dave he wants to go, can I have a lift ? If not, the train fare as far as Leeds, at least, isn't too expensive (last I knew - Jon could probably tell us)
I can go practically anytime.

I'm up for it, but may not be able to do it, depending on time and cash-flow, etc. I reckon it's as suitable a place as any for the Fforum though..

Hi Carla - maybe you got the later corrected version - we had great fun in the office going through the list and finding the errors; Jeremy ringed them all in red ink and I believe there were at least a dozen! I know that the editor of the Bookseller may be highlighting them in next week's edition.

Speaking of which, if the charts in the Bookseller are wrong, blame me - I'm doing them because the usual chap is off. However, I am going to try and mention Jasper in the 2 -3 lines below each chart - obviously in the paperback fiction.

Skiffle: when I find out when it is, I shall work on the persuasion of the Bra King. In the meantime, I'll just sow a few seeds of interest. :-)
