"Shocked" of Sheffield.....

I was watching 'Toy Story' on DVD again last night, when I spotted something that had escaped me before.

Mr Potato Head has an argument with another character (Hamm, I think). At the end of the argument, he removes his mouth and holds it behind himself. I'd previously interpreted this brief sequence as Mr Potato Head forcing himself not to continue the argument, by removing his mouth, also implying that he wasn't speaking to the other person any more.

Watching it again, I suddenly realized that he is in fact, holding his lips to his backside. Mr Potato Head is signalling "Kiss my Ass !"

Naughty Pixar ! That sort of thing shouldn't be allowed in children's movies.

hehehehehehehehe

It's amazing how many little bits are in there that'll go straight over the kids heads. The sign outside the house 'Virtual Realty', the books on the bookshelf behind Woody all named after previous pixar animated films.

I could go on. I frequently do...

Shrek is even worse on that matter....or is it better? When I saw it in the theater, I just loved how the little kids would laugh at one part and the adults would smile...then at another part, the adults would roar and the kids would ask what was so funny...

I love movies like that!

The most extreme example of a 'Kids' movie which is wasted on kids, is 'Chicken Run'. My mother enjoyed it a lot more than my nephew did, but then she's seen more war movies. If you've never seen 'The Great Escape' (and why not ?), 'Chicken Run' just wouldn't be the same.

BTW, the coolest character in 'Great Escape' is not Steve McQueen. It's Charles Bronson. At least he gets away - so there, nyah

yeah, in a rowboat .... is that cooler than a Triumph Bonneville? I think not. (Oarsmen round here may disagree, mind you.)

Apparently when they filmed the bike chase scene (motor bike with Steve McQueen, not James Coburn (IMHO is the hero of the film) on a push bike) the extras couldn't keep up on the same toraine so Steve McQueen had to put on a German uniform and chase himself!

Steve McQueen did indeed wear a German uniform to pursue himself, though I think it was more because he liked riding motorbikes. He didn't do the jump over the fence though; he was happy to admit that the stuntman did that.

Jon: are you sure it's a Triumph Bonneville ? (Then again, I've seen all the transport books in your house. I probably shouldn't doubt you). My brother Chris had a 70's Bonneville.

It's deffo a Triumph, and IIRC it's a Bonneville, too. Shall check.

(You weren't supposed to notice those books ... maybe hiding the geek library in the spare room wasn't a bright idea after all ....)

And when you're my age things like Shrek and Chicken Run are all the better, because you get the kids' jokes, and the adults' ones.

Ah, to be a teenager now that Pixar is here...

Best thing Pixar have done is still 'For the birds'. The look on their face when they realise what's about to happen is priceless...

Aardman Animations have run into problems making their 'Hare and the tortoise' film work, so have decided to do a feature length Wallace and Gromit instead - yay ! I was thinking that they shouldn't leave it too long, as Peter Sallis, who voices Wallace, is looking rather frail these days.

Oh, I love Wallace and Gromit! The animation is just sooooo good.

I love Wallace and Gromit too! I love the cheesy grins (like Chicken Run...didn't realize chicken had teeth LOL!)

The first time I saw them was at a film festival in DC in about 1989 or 90 I think..possibly a year or two later. I LOVED it! I think it was the New Pair of Pants one. (I'm awful at remembering "episode" names) But I just fell in love with Gromit. He kills me. The way he looks at Wallace sometimes just kills me!

"For the birds" is fantastic.

I've never really got into Wallace and Gromit, but I *love* Rex the Runt. Very, very funny.

???? - 'not into Wallace and Gromit' - does not compute.

"A Close Shave" - a crackin' film.

*sings* Rex the runt, Rex the Runt - it's time for a doggy dialogue...

Did anyone see 'Big Knights' when it was on? Very amusing... Sir Boris, Sir Horace, and their hamster - Sir Doris....

My kids love The Big Knights. It's one ABC here in the land of Aus now. Gotta admit, it has a certain charm. Not as much charm as Dangermouse, or course, but I'm yet to come across anything that does.

The Big Knights were superb! Voiced by Brian Blessed too. Fantastic.

For those puzzled out there:

Sir Boris, Sir Morris, Sir Horace the dog, and Sir Doris the Hamster.

And of course, Professor Von Proton and Mrs Ethel Minion, the cook.
