or Disturbed on a Daily Basis. We're equal opportunities round here, y'know.

Apologies Kaz. Generally I try to be less disturbing than I am disturbed, but it's not always both on a daily basis, so that's alright then :)

Over the years I have been know by many names - Rudy (at school, short for Rudolph as my nose would go red on cold mornings), Pretty Boy (rugby nickname at school as I was fairly successful with the girls in my mid to late teens), Adz (been called this daily for 20 years+ not really a nickname), The Boy Lard (after The Boy Lard off Radio 1), Big Lad (affectionate referral to the 'spare kebab' strapped to my waist in recent years, for emergency use only).

There have been a host of famous Adam related names too - Adam Ant, Adam Faith, Adamski, Eve, etc.....

I went to school with this one girl for 13 years and to this day (29 years later!), she still can not pronounce my name correctly.

It's pronounced " T-why-luh" and she always said it as "Twoy-leh" which made it sound a bit like "toilet" Drove me nuts!

The other bad thing about having an "odd name" is that everyone assumes that I'm African-American before they meet me. (Many blacks in the US use very unique names that sometimes sound like they've been made up.) Not that that's a bad thing to begin with, but I keep getting mail for the NAACP (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People ) and for the United Negro College Fund and I even got hate mail once.

And then add my unique first name to a very common maiden name "Davis" that doubles the assumption that I'm African-American. Even my married name Davis Reed comes across that way.

It's just amazing to see the amount of prejudice that's still out there. And I only get a teeny tiny portion of that. Amazing.

Davis? Descendants of slaves are going to name themselves after the president of the Confederacy? That's likely ...

And if people are getting you confused with the NAACP than they're getting very confused indeed .... you should try for getting mistaken for the GOP campaign headquarters instead, and then maybe people would send you money.

(Dear Gorge, I feel you is doin just grate as President and as a lifelong Republican I am always willin to help. Here is some money I boosted from an allnite gas station. Hope it helps, love Cooter.)

actually, a lot of the slaves ended up with their masters' last names for legal purposes...and it's funny you mention good old Jeff...he is allegedly one of my ancestors! (Great-great-great Uncle to be precise and 2 of my brothers are dead-ringers for him! but we've been unable to make the actual scientific-genealogical link as of yet.)

Would this be of any use?

Odd that both Jeff Davis and Abe Lincoln were born in Kentucky, but raised elsewhere (Mississippi and Indiana, respectively),

I'll have him check that site, but the address looks familiar (and it's taking forever to load, which also sounds familiar)...the problem is there's a breakdown in finding the relative 2 generations newer than him...but it's always been family lore that we're related...

allegedly, there are no male links after that 2nd generation, which means there could not be a Davis surname related. So we're kind of stymied on that one, but who knows, it could be a "woodpile" thing and I really could qualify to join the NAACP!

H'mm... I wonder how much different history would have been if it had been the Davis family that moved to Indiana and the Lincoln family that moved to Mississippi, rather than vice versa?

*brain explodes from reinterpretation of history* We should get the Chrono-Guard to try this out!

Anyway, my sn is for Currer Bell, pseudonym of Charlotte Bronte, and the sweetie part should be obvious. It's something literary yet pseudonymish...this was before I found out how useless it was to conceal info on the fforum as everyone's trying to meet everyone else anyhow...

Dell is a rather pretty name; just so long as your surname isn't Glade

It'd be prettier if some git hadn't stolen it from me to use it for his business.

That caused a lot of problems in IT at school & Computing at college :)

& it does provide me to wear out my "it's got my name on, it must be mine" joke even more.

Any chance, I make the most of it. Everyone is sick of it! lol
