How cute, you get a hat! Not much in the way of compensation for all those hours though. I used to work for Dillons when Pentos still owned it and I just hated doing lates, and that was in the good old days when extended opening was for Christmas only, thank the gods.

I will get time in lieu... no over time though...

But these hours and the hours i did in a couple of other signings will get me a whole day off, hurrah!

I only hope there won't be too many screaming kids, or if there are that I will have the patience not to shout at them...

hehehe photos? ;)

*imagines my sis surrounded by hundreds of screaming schoolchildren* :D

And you're right, the real test will be 'not' to shout back at them... something along the lines of "NOW that's IT, EVERYBODY form a STRAIGHT line NOW or there'll be NO books for ANYBODY!!!!"

:)

Heard on the radio that William Hill bookmakers had been taking bets on which character will be killed off in HP4. The largest amount they'd had was £100. Then some bloke with a Liverpudlian accent tried to make a bet for £20,000 yesterday. The bet was not accepted and no more bets on this were allowed.
Wonder why this Liverpudlian character seemed so confident ? You might almost think he'd somehow got hold of a copy or two already.....

When the lorry full of WoLPs goes missing, it's only me, so don't call the police. I'll return them once I've read it, honest...

We won't call the police, so long as you send us each a copy from your haul.

Probably by going into a bookshop and saying 'What ho, good bookmonger, a copy of your finest Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and don't spare the horses'.

Hehe, lol.

Of course I'll distribute. I'd probably even send the money for the copies to Jasper, along with a note saying that I'm sorry I borrowed the copies from the delivery van before the release date but I just really wanted to know what happened...

Presumably the radion statio was referring to HP5. Either that or they really are backward up there...

Letter to the Indie last week:

"Sir,
It's refreshing to see that the City of Culture announcement has already had an effect on reading, with an early rush for Harry Potter. Shame old habits die hard, but you can't have everything..."

Yes, thieving is most definitely the chief pastime of the city the HP hijackers come from. Which is Salford, iirc.

It's 'up North' - you can't expect a London-based press to be able to tell the difference, can you? They probably think that Man U play in Manchester, too...

Er .... no. The Seventh Circle Beneath the Pit, aka Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, is in the borough of Trafford (formerly Stretford). Which is not nor has it ever been in the city of Manchester. Although it is damned close.

Speaking of soccer, what can you tell me about Port Vale? It was mentioned in "The Mennyms".

Re: Stolen Goods!!

Ah, Port Vale. First of all, there is no such place as Port Vale. The name is of mysterious origin, but the team hail from Burslem in Staffordshire, which is one of the Five Towns (actually seven) of the Potteries, and is these days part of the City of Stoke on Trent. Port Vale FC are a club of such spectacular non-achievement they make Torquay United look like Real Madrid. For some reason they had a rush of blood to the head in the 1940's and decided to build a new ground that would be 'the Wembley of the North'. It remained unfinished for forty years. In the 1980's they began to rebuild it to conform to modern standards. It remains unfinished. Robbie Williams the part-time singer and full-time twit claims to be a supporter of Port Vale, but none of his money has ever been seen at Vale Park. Nickname; The Valiants. Colours; Black and white. Status; skint.

Ah indeed, Port Vale. This is a team which has gone down in QPR history for being 4-0 up on us at half time and ending up with a 4-4 draw. I wasn't at that famous match, but you can bet I was following it avidly on the radio.

I bet they're still scratching their heads and cursing us. :-D
