Well, the Rent Office, anyway. Yes, the news about my new fair rent is in and it is GOOD !
Landlord wanted to put the rent up by £250 extra/month (more than double current level)
Rise set by Fair Rent Office - £21/month !

This rise is in fact higher than would normally be allowed, but they've made some concession for the redecoration and renovation that has been done. So now I have a new roof, new windows, new carpets, new bathroom and kitchen (which I don't particularly like), new wiring and proper fire safety work. I'd say it's a bargain really, for a decent-sized two-bedroom flat in a desirable location.

I bet my landlord's sulking :) He can appeal against the rent officer's decision, but then the assessment committee can lower the rent, as well as raising it....

So glad to hear. The revamp only justified a basic rent, and the basic rent for the previous condition was summary execution of landlord. Nice to know the rent office agree.

What about that window that they artistically pre-smashed for you?

And yes, what about the cats?

The window was replaced a good while back; not the landlord's fault it got broken, it was the roofers. No more word from anyone about getting rid of the cats.
It's been more than a week since I told the landlord that the bathroom door doesn't close properly any more, since the new hall carpet comes further into the bathroom than the old one did. As I live here alone, I don't generally bother closing it anyway, but I'd like it to shut properly when friends come round !

Thanks for all the good wishes, folks. I went out and treated myself to a tub of Ben and Jerry's Karamel Sutra ice-cream. Mmmmmmm.

You're on the right track, my friend - replace the <> with [ ]

Accordingly the same principle as [ i] for italics works for [ b] bold and [ u] underline too (plus combinations of all three)

PS well you WERE on the right track before you edited it! Ha!

For future reference, you surround a word with [ i] then [ /i] to turn it into italics (the spaces I've included there are for demonstation purposes only, otherwise obviously "then" would be italicized!

Also, to include a hyperlink, you put [ url] [www.etc] [ /url]

Or to include an "inline" image (not recommended unless it's a thumbnail, please, cos people with slow connections understandably get annoyed when a thread takes an AGE to load) you put [ img] either side of it [ /img]
