Bungston Schagg

Hello Fforde fans. I am reading Eyre Affair and enjoying it immensely. I have the governor on as I do not want to finish it too fast. I am posting this because I have written a book, and as I read Eyre, it occurred to me that you all might find my book amusing as well. It is not as good as Eyre Affair, but it is free, and because it is free I do not think this can be considered shameless self-promotion.

Anyway, take a look. Bung still makes me laugh.

Hey Will,

I'm only on the first chapter, but I like it already.

I fancy myself as a writer, but my (limited) work (short stories is all I can manage) is a bit strange. I recently wrote a poem from the point of view of a meal!

What were you? Spaghetti? Risotto? Pie?

The book looks good, I'll read it properly later.

Oh, I was a rejected pizza. Shall I put it in this thread?

*groan* moy. You may as well. I might put in a story later.

Ok, here goes. I'll apoligise in advance: it's really screwed.

I am a meal.
Slowly they add genes
Of flour, butter, yeast
Forming my DNA,
Deciding upon my individual traits.
Once the prime building is done,
They add my dimples, birthmarks, flaws
Cumin, saffron, some ill-placed chilli.
Then they present me to the world,
Upon a silver platter,
With a sprig of parsley,
My only companion.
To the table I go,
and am placed in front of them.
They stare at me, fleetingly, then say
"But we did not order a pizza!"

The End

I like it!

But then again, I used to like chips and peanut butter together...

*urgh* Peanutbutter... Who on earth invented that? How desperate must he/she have been? *sigh* Maybe it's a national thing. Is it?

Peanut butter (wholenut, no added sugar) is a valuable ingredient in a number of excellent vegetarian recipes including my famous gravy. I can't imagine eating it with chips, though. I think even those who can consume the infamous "chip butty" without turning a hair would balk at that idea.

It's a little bit claggy on bread, too - you definitely have to be in the mood for it as a spread.

Peanut butter makes a great thickening agent in a home-made curry sauce....

So I've heard... Maybe it's ok if you don't use too much? I remember some chinese sauce (prepared at some party NOT by Chinese people) which smelled and tasted of nothing but peanut butter, although I knew there was more to it that just this one ingredient... *shivers* That was horrid!

Peanut butter *ack*. I'm annoyed because the large jar of coffee I've started using recently tastes bad. I know the milk is fresh, so it's not that. The coffee granules themselves don't smell right. I've barely had a full cup of coffee in about the last three days. I'll have to go buy some more tomorrow, and possibly send the label to the manufacturers, with a letter of complaint to see if I get a voucher, or something.

Didn't have a proper tea before going out this evening, so I've been existing on cherries. Chris put a huge bowlful of big, lucious cherries from his garden, on the table. I must have eaten at least a pound and a half. He gave me the last half pound to take home. I'm not sure I want to look at another cherry again soon.

I know someone who used to eat Peanut butter and sardines.

Also, this has to be the best turn off topic I have seen on the fforum. From a book straight to unusual foods - Brilliant!

Peanut butter & chips? H'mmm. Haven't tried that combination of foods yet, might do so if I ever have both of them handy at the same time but wouldn't go out of my way to arrange this.

Peanut butter was discussed in an earlier thread, maybe a couple of months ago, too (but don't ask me what that thread was called...).

Yes, I think you're right - that was where I mentioned the dreadful sandwich made by my former fiance. For those of a sensitive disposition I shall not repeat it here!

It initially looks like this topic would swerve wildly, but now it seems that peanut butter is the foreordained topic. Bungston would approve. Consider the merits of stir fried plantain and pork with a peanut butter and soy suce. Add kiwi fruit slices after the heat is off. Carefull not too much PB is in that sauce or it will turn out like Barbies "chinese" sauce, which ounded like a bad satay sauce.
