Meanwhile in Metropolis ...

"It's no good; I can't do it."
"Can't do it? But ... but, Clark - you're Superman! You can leap tall buildings at a single bound! Be more powerful than a -"
"I know my own powers, Lois. But this is too much, even for me."
"No, Clark, no; why, you can read at superfast speed, and you've changed history so often nobody has a clue what the backstory is anymore - surely you can't let a little thing like this defeat you. Say - you haven't been snorting kryptonite again, have you?"
"No I have not. Lois - you'll just have to accept it. There are some things even Superman can't do."
"I don't believe it!""
"Lana Lang would believe me."
"I'm sure she would. C'mon, Clark ... try one more time ... just for me, huh?"
"No, Lois. Look, once and for all, just accept it. I can't keep up with all the posts on the Fforde Fforum!"
"Wuss."

He needs a Supercat to help, obviously. Minsky says that if the fee's in Moggilicious he's quite prepared to negotiate.

Frank Miller's Batman beats up Superman by means of a cunning plan. Seen that one? Apparently it's fairly priceless now. In that version, Superman is, well, a bit dim. Could Batman keep up with the Fforum?

Seriously, it's getting to be a fairly full time business trying to do so. Lose a day and you've had it. Supposing the rate of increase continues, what do we do?

I'm only attempting to keep up with a few threads, though I have trouble from day to day remembering which ones those are! But it is a nice escape from the thankless task of sorting and packing; I move in a week and a half. *sigh*

Thanks much for the giggle, Jon.

Eep! What are you going to do? Chop off us ne'er do well newbies? Nnoooooooooo! But wasn't there a surge and a drop off (as it were) when the first two books were published? I know I found the fforum early on and then forgot about it for quite a while... maybe it'll level out a bit...

If the English language made any sense, a catastrophe would be an apostrophe with fur.

Dunno --- don't go! Not wanting anyone to go, just pondering the nature of Fforum growth and its' implications. No doubt PSD is on top of things and can tell us whether we are more like a power series or an exponential, or what.

I really benefit from gatherings, it makes the Fforum so much more understandable to me.

Yep me too... I'm going nowhere me! As it said in a card I found somewhere, you'll have to pay to have me dragged away.... which made me laugh!

Hmm, interesting question. I shall waste no time looking into it.

I might have known. My maths was honed in the Physics dept and then ritually abused in Control Eng. I'll be interested by your research, feel free to get technical. I'm just too lazy (or over-committed) to bother with the effort myself.

For those not technically minded, if it's exponential, that could mean real trouble (though Jasper will probably have sold more books than there are people in a foreseeable time).

Alison, if I pay to have you dragged away, don't I get the choice of where?

If it's a power series it isn't any better, you know.

No chance. I'm very choosy about where I get dragged...

There speaks the voice of experience?

I'm leaving for that rectangular thing that gets used at night. This statement is unconnected with the above statement.

I really ought to do some work I suppose.

PSD: What about the S curve that you get from the logistic map ? It levels off to a new higher population. It also leads to chaotic behaviour which sounds about right for round here...

I feel like that.

And I feel kinda distant... there aren't enough hours without work to spend them all with gf plus reading this and chatting with you :/
