Did she write about vampires/werewolves as detectives(?) The name rings a bell.

I've read one book by her, also set somewhere in contemporary Canada, in which a vampire ('Henry Fitzroy', an illegitimate son of King Henry VIII) helped a human detective (named 'Vicky'?) to solve a case: This was apparently the start of a series, but I've never seen any of its sequels. I don't know offhand about whether there were any werewolves doing detection in any of her works.

The series that I recommended above contains considerably more humour (although it's certainly not in the "wacky" category, and isn't a parody of anything either...) than did the book about the vampire & the detective.

That's the one - "Blood Hype"?
I'll have to look up the cat ones, I quite liked the vampire one.

Sarah B - yes, I have. Fairly ordinary memoirs though, although I envy his relationship with the lonely teacher...

This is the work of an Italian narco-anarchic collective. Don't bother insulting them, they can't read English anyway.

KT _
I checked via google (Advanced Search: all of the words 'Tanya, Huff, bibliography' & -> the one offered by 'Fantasticfiction') : Five books, all with 'Blood' in the title but none (as far as I can see) with 'Hype'.

I found them a nice gentle read. He comes across as real and down to Earth, which is nice.

Simon - Oh yes, "Blood Hype" is by Alan Dean Foster - I was thinking of "Blood Price"

Blood Price, Trail, Lines, Pact, Debt.

Now that you mention it I've read that book by Foster, too, years ago.

any of michael marshall smith's early stuff (especially 'Only Forward')

Or, if humour takes your fancy, 'Are You Dave Gorman' by (funnily enough) Dave Gorman. Hilarious.

Sarah B - read the books and enjoyed them and yes, he does come across as a nice gentle sort of chap.

But a colleague who has met him says he is extremely boring!

Figures. Mind you, I suppose you can leave out the dull bits when you're writing...

Vi _
I've just mentioned another book that I'd recommend, by a German author but available in English as well as German, in the 'Plugging' thread. I realise that by the time you read this it will be far too late for you to include a copy in the purchase that you mentioned at the start of this thread, but thought that you might like to take a look at it (if you aren't already familiar with it) anyway...
