Conversation from Saturday night, which was the last night I spent at my parents' house:
Mum: Good grief, this heat is ridiculous. I'm going to go and stand in the utility room. [Explanatory note: my parents' utility room has a concrete floor with nothing over it but lino. That's lino, not vinyl. It's cold underfoot.]
Sarah: Good plan - I'll join you.
[Dad follows.]
Mum: This floor's warm!
Sarah: I know! It's no good at all, is it?
[Both of us look at Dad.]
Sarah: Dad, why don't you take your socks off?
Dad: Because I might get cold feet.
At this point Mum and I just about collapsed laughing...
