Microcon is nearly here!

Hiya!

Just thought I'd stick a quick Microcon reminder onto the Fforum - Guest of Honour is our lovely Mr Fforde. It's this weekend coming - 1st and 2nd March - starting at 9.30 on the Sat and 12.30 on the Sun - on the Exeter University Campus (up in Devonshire House for anyone that knows the area - for those that don't, there will be sign posts up) It would be great to see loads of people there - a chance to tell Jasper to his face how much we love him! (am I crawling enough?)

Many other guests as well, of course - Jon Courtenay Grimwood, N Lee Wood, Nick Walters, Paul Cornell, Paul Hinder, Shaky Kane, Stephen Palmer and many many more...

Talks and readings by lots of the guests (if you ever wanted to know what it's like to go out and hunt mythological animals, then come and listen to our resident Crypto-zoologist who actually gets paid to look for the Yeti, the Naga, and many other weird and wonderful creatures), as well as panels on Dr Who, Writer's Groups and on Comics - it's going to be a fantastic weekend!

Entry is only £3.50 for students, and £5.00 for people with jobs - a bargain weekend :)

Jo

I'm not going to be able to make it after all, following the not-so-sudden disappearance of all my money. Well, the reappearance of major negative money, anyway...

And I foolishly made plans and booked tickets thinking it was age's away, only to find it's this weekend, oops. Still, I'll be sending my flatmates with a stack of books to get signed and I'm sure there'll be other cons.

Talking of cons, here comes one now...

==============================

Dear Four Room Mites,

Allow me introduce Myself - I am Havern Uwon, of the Nigerian Bank of Phlegethon, and have been recomended your good name for a business proposal of great tact and privilidge.

In 1985 a great friend of mine, Mr A. Cheron-Hades executed a contact in a work of great expectations, the expectations being a 25.873 million USD (twofive - eightseventhree dollars US). The contract was completed replacing narative flow valves on Kafka's Trial. Unfortunately the details were lost after a mysterious failure of the valves, causing a catastrophic loss of plot and contact with Mr Hades, who we assume dead.

Mr Hades make fixed payment into bank I work for three years, as with our normal operating procedure at my bank. Due to misfortunate inunderstanding of Julie's Fiction, is my role to organise payment of this contract discretely, hence my contact of you, who have been recomended as good name and honest man I can trust.

I am unable to find next of kin for Mr Hades, except for a reference to nine cans of cat food, which is sure mistake. Hence I wish to move the money of his contract to secret bank account outside Nigeria to avoid government suspicion of extra zeroes in wage packet of my wife.

Due to magnitude of this deal and secrecy needed I propose to leave thirty per cent of 25.873 million USD (twofive - eightseventhree dollars US) to you as gratitude, but need to use your account to transfer money through. 10 per cent will cover all costs, and any left will remain also with you. I think this highly agreeable to man of good name and sense like yourself.

All I need is for you to stand as next of kin for Mr Hades. This is 100 per cent risk free as attorney involved to sign papers and see you next of kin. No risk comes to me through this attorney, that main reason why attorney involved.

If you are interested in this investment I ask you keep quiet to not alert government, and then we can both profit from the late Mr Hades. Please, if you are sincere, honest and willing to consumate this business deal with me kindly reach me via my personal email so we can proceed with the transaction.

Yours,

Havern Uwon,
Nigerian Bank of Phlegethon

Any bets on Acheron being behind this one too? Or did Styx survive? The world should be told...

EDIT --> Click on 'archive' and then look at Hu Flung dung... Genius...

EDIT OF THE EDIT--> A couple of boojums though, if the link marked 'next' takes you backwards, then try changing the number in the url yourself to, erm, one higher. It's logical like that...

EDIT OF EDIT OF EDIT--> This also hasone of th best death scenes I can remember - [sweetchillisauce.com] if you can't be bothered to read the whole thing.

He doesn't eat mars bars- being a toy he's already stuffed! Snak sized is better cos you can pretend they're 'healthier', ha ha ha. But I can't keep them in the fridge any more, as my mother or my father keep nicking them, and chocolate is verboten to both of them. So I hide them, It's not me being greedy... this time!
