young boy, befriends a wizard and bunch of other misfits, loses his guardians to the bad guy, and goes off to save the world(s), defeats the bad guy, only to have the bad guy come back in the next instalment (to the musical accompaniment of John Williams)

I don't know if it's just me, but some of these spoilers are getting to be a little obscure! I guess a lot of it just depends on what you happen to have read...
