Dave: would you be so kind as to mail me those hints too? I've read all the ones on the board, but I can't seem to get it to work. I'd really appreciate it. :)

Greetings all --

I would appreciate some hints for the puzzle too. I've used what I thought was illogic, but alas, I am stuck. Thanks ever so . . .

PS I understand that VPEC has raised the price of vitriol due to the current world situation. Raw crude is now up to 3 & 3/4 per statement .

okay, okay - enough!

The first one is really easy - I mean, how many dodo's have you seen walking down your road recently? One of them is very much not extinct - use your skill and intellect to work out which...

Second one is the Starter for Ten from 'Name That Fruit'. Even I could do it, although there are rumours that at least one person went through the entire book and worked out that only one of the items was reverse engineered. By the way, the odd one out is the only one to be a verb, and to feature on Welsh pound coins. No, really.

Third one is the doozy. One of them is the name of the bar in the Finis Hotel, Swindon. The others, aren't. Hint - it's also a character in Alice in Wonderland...

Finally, one of them is a form of transport that Thursday is told about when her father offers to leave her in a different timestream, in, er, LIAGB (I think). Nevertheless, you ought to be able to get it. It's the bugger that looks modern, is all I'm saying.

Hope this helps...

Actually, as I recall in the third one all but one are Nextian publications (point the cursor at them and wait for the name to pop up), and the final one has one mode of transportation that doesn't exist in Thursday's world (and which--as PSD points out--she doesn't really believe in when her father tells here they do exist somewhere else).

Oddly enough, they all made perfect sense to me on the first go, and I got through on the first try. My mind must be warped in the correct direction.

The fact that MAgda rmembers the fact that three of them are publications, and I remember one is a bar probably tells you all you need to know about a: the things we hold important and b: the delay to WN...

i AM EMBARRASSED TO admit that I still after what seems like months (trying every few visits to the site!) can not do the odd one out puzzle! Surely this many "wrong goes" must be a statistical impossibility - could someone please just email me the answers - I know that's hopeless but it is driving me nuts!!

I'm stuck on the Odd One Out! I've read your posts and I just finished rereading Eyre Affair...but every guess I try seems to be wrong! Obviously, I haven't tried EVERY option yet, because I'd hit it eventually. I've got the third one...I believe I have the second one and the fourth one...maybe I'm doing wrong on the first? If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Tanya

hooray! thanks to the now updated hints, i've got past the odd one out (apart from a slight delay caused by the conviction that there was a mole in alice in wonderland, and mini-scooters were modern).

Now i'm stuck on the first adverby thing, and most annoyed that it isn't "seasonally".

Nooooo! Don't make me do those again!

The scooter in the picture is an old-fashioned one, not one of those god-awful jobbies that arrived from some evil genius-mastermind's atomic toy shop a couple of years back.

by the way, I asked...the Dodo in the Forest of Dean was Mari's idea! And she's overjoyed that it's been so difficult. I told them the Swifties were evil and they both chuckled maniacally!

oh and this is for Sarah... "Barney Google, with the goo-goo-googly eyes!"
