Greetings to both of you!

I'm BK. Have a slice of whatever is making the rounds. Unless it's got marzipan on it.

Hi Whatsnext. If you are not rolled up in a tube, help yourself to pie. There is some of mrs. SkidMarks' Shepherd's Pie left. As she is also a Kiwi you may be able to understand what she is saying.

Make yourself at home.

You can have marzipan if you really want to... I just didn't want to inflict that upon a new comer! (Kiwis, I dunno)

I do now, and yes MYF does know about the Ffiesta as she came to the last one.

MYF welcome to the board, I'm sure I must have spoken to you on Saturday and if you feel the need to help we'd love to have you on board and the rest of you too!

Don't worry, LS, it is not an obsession as such. Worship is kept to a minimum.

And from what I remember, school is not that bad. The pay may be poor but the holidays are far better than what is ahead of you...........

And the thing to remember about school - is that the teachers are hanging out for the holidays just as much as you are - and also don't always want to be there - I speak as a reformed teacher.

Hi all! Just finished having some pie over in the First Among Sequels fforum and thought I'd come introduce myself properly (and see if there's more pie on offer over here).

I'm an ex-pat Canadian living in the UK, happily married with one adorable and precocious toddler. I used to be about the same age as Thursday Next but she has raced ahead of me recently. I picked up The Eyre Affair in August 2001 while stuck at Stansted Airport watching my flight be delayed repeatedly, and soon was laughing so hard that I nearly missed the flight when it was eventually ready to take off.

I've a degree in music and, since starving in a garret held limited appeal, have had a varied career in the nuclear research industry (public relations only), retail management, education and IT, to mention a few, but since childhood have dreamed of writing for a living.

If I were to attend a school reunion tomorrow, I would be able to boast of a five-year career with several published volumes (small circulation, small but avid, loyal and vocal readership) and occasional publicity in the local paper...yes, I take minutes of local government committee meetings.

If you wish to be a writer, be specific lest your wish be granted!

HITW

(Aside: I might have to re-consider the username as I sound like a TV doctor on a walk without his faithful butler Jeeves, and that wasn't what was intended.)

Hi, HITW.

Sadly my lack of having watched House precludes me from envisaging scenes from Jeeves with him instead.

The only reason I dislike it is I never have enough money to spend on things. Like books. And (if this forum gets to me too much) pie.

We can't help you there. That condition extends well into senility, but the price of the toys (and the books that you will covet) just increases to stay above the income available.

Logic-Sword:

As someone who has hated work since the day I started it, my sagely advice is to stay in school as long as you can. You can always make money on Ebay. But really: do everything you can to avoid work. It's vastly over-rated, unless someone is paying you to do something you'd be happy to do for nothing.

And pie isn't an obsession. Pie is life and cherry pie is the meaning of life.

Victim Alert!

<gulp>

My name is Meg and I live in Orange, California (yes, it's a town, too). Recently I decided never to get older than 36. I figure I can keep that up until my son is at least 20, right? Much longer and I suppose it will get awkward explaining my youthful peccadilloes (sp?) to new acquaintance.

I went to college in Boston for a year but was removed by my parents due to over-dependence on influences of the fermented kind. Since then I have taken any job that allows me to make enough money to live as a single mother in this part of the world while still spending most of my time reading (the oldest profession excepted)...

Can't wait until the new TN is released here on the 24th. That will only give me 3 days to recover from Deathly Hallows but I think I can handle it.

Look forward to posting and to getting to know you all. My favorite pie is peach...
