Dad just back from work and popped his head in to check how much writing I'd got done today. Luckily he only asked what chapter I'm on, not how much I've written. It would have been more if the fforum hadn't been so busy today.

And perhaps if I'd woken earlier than 10:15 this morning (catching up after the clocks went forward, that's my excuse).

Just tell him how many words. You don't have to point out none of them were for a book...

We used to have homework diaries, that our parents were supposed to sign at the end of the week. Mum never saw mine for the last two years of high school. Easiest signature in the world to forge, my mum's.

Ha! you're proud of two years? I managed five!

Best excuse ever heard for not having a homework diary came from my friend, Stephen. The conversation went as thus:

"Stephen, where's your homework diary?"
"Ben's eaten it, miss."
"Ben, is this true?"
*shrug* "Well, yeah."
"Why?!?!?"
"He bet me a quid I wouldn't. Seemed like a fair deal."

I had too - including the staples.
